... my boyfriend is a coward in the end ... but I'm here and I'll be queer and f*ck you... The old script from the 80s, (like roughly in EMForster's Maurice from 1913) all that looks done and redone. Opportunity to feel a bit of Georgia at least, but no. Film Is made by a Swede, who just confronts the Swede/Westerners to the image they would like to have for gays and those countries there, (even the folk looked just like decor) He even made the young Georgians partying to ABBA which says enough

Do they even make any non-gay movies these days?

Starts out wonderful, managing to be entertaining despite the somewhat aged European arthouse style. With a great cast and an interesting setting, this could have been a real gem if it hadn't been for the ending, which is an outright Georgian Billy Elliott.

Fresh and invigorating spin on the coming out/first love story set in a milieu (Georgia) where an lgbt lifestyle is not openly tolerated, yet in an environment (dance troupe) where in many part of the world it would be perfectly acceptable. A sweet and loveable film and while the ending seems a little calculated, it's tears are earned. Levan Gelbakhiani - energetic, charismatic and sweet - is a real find.

An evocative and touching coming of age story set against the backdrop of Georgian dance. Beautifully shot and full of depth and character. Raw, real and wonderful.

Gürcistan'dan harika bir film. Gürcü dansıyla başlayan film, dans grubuna yakışıklı bir çocuk gelince, ortam karışır. Babasız varoş bir hayat yaşayan dansçı Merab, yakışıklı Irakli'ye aşık olur. Asi gençlerin, hırs, ihtiras, şehvet ve umursamaz tavırları düzeyli anlatılmış. Herşey boş aile kalıcıdır. Filmin sonunda, öğretmene kapak atıp, alkışı alıyor. Gurbette yorgun düştün mü ceylan? Hasret tükettik bittik be ceylan.

Jag är lite kluven. Miljöerna, musiken och dansen drar upp, den ganska tunna storyn drar ned. Efter att ha ruvat på det hela är det ganska självklart att 3,5 blir betyget tre.

A contemporary, fairly predictable coming of age story, the interest is the background setting of Georgian traditional attitudes and culture.

Boy meets other boy, they fall in love and while it doesn't end in total disaster; they can't be together and it's very realistic and bittersweet. Maybe this fells fresh in Georgia, but to me it was strongly reminiscent of movies from 15-20 years ago.

What is not successful in Call Me By Your Name successful here. Even though I am not keen to see some orientalist perspective from the director, it is okay. I can ignore some ridicoulusly bad dialogues and some music video-like scenes. Becauses, here, the story is more interesting, their love is more convincing and their uneasiness when they love each other is very real. Also, I liked how the Merab's story evolved to the end, how the whole things connected to each other was pretty good I think.

Smalltown Boy goes to Georgia. I don't feel the plot was breaking any new ground, but clearly Georgia is several decades behind the curve and it's an important reminder that millions around the word still face oppression by conservative societies. It's a beautifully made film and I loved the tracking shot at the wedding towards the end.
