Some nice direction and photography coupled with good performances make this very watchable. It is however bland. Just not much happens. Technically very good, but deeply underwhelming.

Very good cinematography, but like many biographies, the plot lacks purpose and conclusion. However, If you're in 'real life stories', it's among the better ones.

The same points being driven home again and again and again. Your daddy was a lousy provider. The church is hypocritical. I get it already. It's just endless scenes of stupid people doing stupid things and we're supposed to feel sorry for them.

This lighthearted look at the most destitute & depressing of childhoods is on screen forever with the episodes frequently so similar as to be disorienting. Perhaps this is the point, as the central character grows, nothing around him changes, if this isn't the point, no other springs to mind, perhaps because wanting the movie to end stands out so clearly in the mind, the sanctuary of hope.
