A fairly straightforward character piece in which everything can be taken at face value, there's no secret subtext - although the screenwriting device is that information about the characters is mainly withheld. This works as a method, thanks to good direction, but you feel it limits where the film can go. The highlight is Clotilde Hesme's delicately nuanced performance as a maladjusted, unconfident adult with a repressed childlike quality which is unveiled as the story unfolds.

The typical french contemporary drama: it's bleak, but it wants to be warm; it's cold, but it wants to be passionate. A drama about a woman that has a criminal record should at least have received a decent tone.
