Anna

Anna is a decent mystery movie for the majority of its running time, even if its ending tries too hard to explain everything and in doing so winds up being more confusing than helpful. It has a few good twists, an interesting premise, and a strong performance by Taissa Farmiga, even if the rest of the cast is pretty poor and it's ultimately not as clever as it might think. I'm not sure if it's worth watching, but if you decide to give it a spin, you might have a bit of fun.

"Body Heat" with psychic powers, and sympathy for an underage girl standing in for (overt) sexual attraction. Otherwise if anything too faithful: once I'd realised that this was a neo-noir effort - because one of the twists had become obvious early, long before the final reveal - the other twist also became obvious only slightly later. A flaw reducing mystery and suspense. Some things are oddly unexplained, a flaw perhaps increasing them. But equally at cost to the conclusion.

Many interesting ideas and questions, and nice visuals too. But I'm not sure about angle used to go at the concepts. It seems like they want you to hesitate between two+ conclusions while watching, but it is hard to when a side is more suspicious than others.

good acting and shooting....the plot promising, but the culmination and end upside down and disappointing.

Anna is bananas in this thriller about a girl who has some issues and they send a "Mind Detective" to just get her to stop her hunger strike. As Mark Strong finds out, no matter how strong you are, sometimes these cases can be trickier than you think. I love the whole mind detective thing, it sounds lame saying it loud or even typing it, but what these detectives can do is relive people's memories by holding their hands and entering minds...

Pretty well made, but very derivative of a lot of well-known noir/psychological films. It would be getting into spoiler territory to start citing these films. As an aside, quite amusing to see Mark Strong say he's not a cop, as I think this is the first time I've seen him when he's not playing someone in law enforcement.

The players give it a good go but they -and the 'to show it's serious' strings- don't quite make up for the fact it's a puzzle-thriller where the puzzles are too easy/telegraphed or make no sense at all.

Quite good idea but a bit too blunt around the edges. Good but not great.

There are films where you're lead to expect a twist ending and there are films where that twist itself can be somewhat obvious. Anna falls into both categories, but unfortunately falls victim to the scene leading to said twist undermining the first and second acts. All Anna's (alleged) crimes are brushed under the rug, before revealing that there was in fact a trap door. Farmiga does a decent job, but seems hampered by poor writing that makes her appear too dastardly to make the plot work.

It was a very good mystery. I was also unable to solve the mystery till the end of the film.
