Anna Karenina

Well done, though with such a short running time, I'm sure much of the novel was left out.

carried by Garbo. Which I guess is basically every movie she's in but I wanted more. The intro scenes are the best

"Anna Karenina" has some great scenes and two men who lack empathy. The Russian drinking game alone makes this film worth watching.

Gotta love the russian soldiers drinking vodka and diving under the table. And Greta Garbo...what a gaze! what eyes! what a face! Now that's Karenina with some presence. The book is better, though

Garbo was maybe not a great actress, but is such a great screen presence that it doesn't matter.

Better then Greta Gabo's 1927 version, but still suffers from being too romantically slow in it's telling to really get as engaging such a classic love story should be. Fredric March and Garbo are good, but didn't sense the total devotion between the two. Basil Rathbone as her sleazebag husband was excellent. The cast gave what they were supposed to give and helped keep this a steady film without many highs or lows. Two scenes do stick out. The Russian drinking game and naturally the climax.
