The psychological distress of the man could have been interesting, but the movie focuses more on the cringe-y relationship with Lisa that is just not romantic at all. It's more of an abusive relationship based on power inequality between a rich famous guy and a naive self-deprecating woman. The movie ending suggests that she should be thankful for it. Yuck.

Charlie Kaufman is never one to shy away from exploring the most uncomfortable, intimate, and innately human aspects of our civilisation. As he did in his directorial debut, "Synecdoche, New York", Kaufman delves into the psychology of isolation in "Anomalisa", the concept of believing that there is no one in this life who is unique or special or able to understand you, and ultimately, what happens when we push away those that do when we finally find them. What a stunning display of film-making

I am really done with these American independent movies recounting the same story again and again. I don't really care about an average American's (or an average person's) existentialist crises, and I don't want to hear stupid social commentary from old farts who still have the brain of a teenager. Just grow up and get over it, please. You are not 15 years old anymore. Life is meaningless, accept it and enjoy it. Fuck!

The small movements and gestures in the animations are beautifully done. The larger movements (like walking) are not, but that is less important to the feel you get for the characters. The plot however is leading nowhere and leaves you with a big question mark.

Breathtaking in its combination of down-to-earth detail (see the lovingly crafted stop-motion animation, authentic dialogue) and a calm, patient pace (see the long cab ride, trip up the elevator, walk to the ice machine), which, in a marvelously ironic way, celebrate with refreshing realism (see the sex scene) the inevitability of and the beauty that can be found in the mundane while following a lead who only wants to get away from it (the repeated voice symbolized the antagonist(s) perfectly).

Quite unique animation. The film also manages to maintain a quite unique tone for a while, but then, closer to the end it slips into something very unpleasant which surely has its origin in the desire to make a brilliant ending. I would much prefer it to remain understated to the end.

How do you bring across a feeling of emptiness and boredom through celluloid? Make the audience feel as empty and bored as your main character. One for the Lost In Translation crowd, Anomalisa attempts to convey the inner angst of a miserable, selfish guy going through a mid-life crisis: here failing to utilise the (iffy) stop motion to any meaningful effect. As a Kaufman film, you are kept interested - expecting a big twist or something more to come - but ultimately your patience is unrewarded.

Mid-life crisis hits--trying to find a meaning in life. A bit Existential for my taste, but if it causes some self-reflection then that can be helpful.

Great animation, voice acting and visual directorship is greatly fine. THe subjects are also very flu but also very familiar too. alienation, losing interest, the meaning of existence, identity crisis in old ages. Good mix, .. Fine dialogs,, dialogs are clever you can understand any character with 1 or 2 line Cab Driver, Lisa's friend, Henry.. All of it. Loosing the spirit of adventure and the feel of being alive is become spendable for success and safety. And thats causes us a trouble. NICE
