Anon is an interesting movie for 2/3 of its running time before suddenly falling off a cliff when it needs to start reaching its conclusion. It becomes a disappointment in the way that it gives us this creative world and doesn't do much with it. There's little payoff—the only thing we get is a conclusion to its main plot, which is one of its least interesting parts. Much like at least a couple of other Andrew Niccol movies, it has a great idea that never reaches its potential.

It's okay. The premise is kind of neat, Minority Report meets Watch Dogs, Seyfried puts in solid work as a sexy femme fatale hacker but Owens looks bored. It doesn't explore its themes and concept very deeply, the ending twist left me unsatisfied, some of the dialogue is hokey, it's slightly bland as a whole... and yet I still enjoyed myself a little bit; enough to give it a very minor recommendation, anyway. But it is wasted potential.

As much as I love previous Niccol scripts ('Gattaca' and 'The Truman Show') and what his latest aspires to be ('Strange Days' / 'Black Mirror'), I have to admit that this was a whole lot shittier than it had any right to be. Too bad.

They create a creepy world of humans integrated with computers and electronic surveillance. A hacker can hijack what a person sees, control memories and manufacture a new reality. Extra points for the clever story, however the pace is frequently too slow. There is a fair amount of suspense but so much just standing around that it comes up short in thrills and excitement. Quite a few too many blank stares and text on the screen to be great. I wanted to like it more than I did.

This would work very well as a 45 minute Black Mirror episode with its interesting central premise. As it is, however, the film turns into a joyless slog by the end. The length gives way to numerous plot holes and the undo attention on the film's nudity is juvenile. Still, you have a pleasing aesthetic and Clice Owen so all is not lost

Great acting and cinematography. Stylistically, it feels like a spiritual successor to Niccol's In Time. Although the concept is just about as fascinating as its predecessor, Anon largely fails to explore the concept to its full extent (although it does try). In particular, I feel like the film failed to make any sort of commentary (positive or negative) about the world it creates and ultimately, the narrative was wrapped up in a convoluted and unsatisfying way.

Some of the Mini-Reviews have already nailed this. It's initially a quite intriguing mix of Watch Dogs (video game) and Spielberg's Minority Report but runs out of steam the longer it goes on, becoming less and less interesting along the way. In that way it's like a lesser sibling to Niccol's own In Time which was another exciting sci-fi concept that didn't quite follow through in delivery. Lower your expectations and you might find this a more satisfactory experience.

Feels more like a Black Mirror episode than a full fledge film. It's decent but it is not amazing. Did bore me a little towards the ends. Techniques used were decent but when your script is weak, not much one can do.

Why are there so many films with so much potential, that ends up being terrible? The problem is that the good parts are actually decent and very intriguing. It builds up enough interest for you to stay interested but it quickly falls apart. Great to see Clive Owen for the first time in a while too. It has enough there that this should have been a pretty good film, but in the end, it's really just a hot mess with nowhere to go.

A sci-fi movie with prescient themes depicting a future where privacy is an illusion and our dependence on technology for even memories is ubiquitous. The detective element is prominent and it has a sort of retro-futuristic aesthetic. While "Anon" may be a little bit disposable, it's a whole lot of watchable.

The plot was so bad and poorly designed, at one point I stopped looking for sense. Clive Owen as always he is, Amanda Seyfried was weird though. Her psychical appearance fits so perfectly but she acted unexpectedly bad. Also; gunshot wounds doesn't bleed in the future obviously.

There's really no logic to the fact that something like GATTACA gets uniformly positive reviews and this uniformly negative. The idea is more interesting here than in his debut, or in Alex Garland's debut for that matter, and the aesthetic not less appealing. Admittedly, in this case the filmmakers didn't seem to have a clue about how to end it, and the choice they decided upon seems underwhelming and perfunctory. But I liked all the odd staring.

The image of women in this film is very bad. The virtual reality graphics get boring really quickly.

Could have been more interesting, the premise is the ability to alter the (now) tangible memories of others but they don't really do anything interesting with it. It's like a low budget "strange days" or "inception" where there is never any drama or intrigue and precious little of interest.

Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried play off one another perfectly for the first 2 acts of the movie. Her mystery intriguing, his lust his undoing more often than not; Anon skips only one beat and that is a thrilling conclusion. Solid acting, bleak atmosphere in a world where so much is on display. The scope of the film is very limited and that helps ultimately shroud the film in unpredictability. The ending and the "twist" did not flow with the film. An isolated Owen and Seyfried are enough though.

Dull, messy cyberthriller that's basically a tired retread of much better 90s cyberthrillers. It seems bored with its own plot even before it begins and can't even pretend to care about having its plot make sense. Cut out all the dramatic pauses and it's barely even a short film.

While the setup and the imagery are great. The story development however is so very slow, and the character progression is the same. And then, the story fizzles... There's is all this build up, slow build up, and then nothing happens. It leaves one feeling that the time spent watching this was completely wasted.

Not much makes sense in there. And there's no exploration of the psychological or philosophic consequences of such a world. Just a standard crime movie in the end.
