Continues the trend of keeping things small. Ant-Man keeps the stakes comlparitively low to other Marvel movies. To that extent, there's a degree of humanity to a superhero whose movie is dedicated to saving one person--even if Michelle Pfeiffer still looks fantastic. Keep it small, Ant-Man.

A smaller scale superhero movie with a smaller superhero has arrived to give us a break from the end of the world story we usually get from others, which is what the first Ant-Man was. Nothing wrong with that at all. This sequel drives on the same exact sense of humor as the first movie and the same charming and likable cast. The action and thrills are all done really well and it has a lot of fun with it's cast and subtext. If you enjoyed the first movie, this will more than likely satisfy you

There's so many holes down this basic-plot-road I think my brain suspension broke when trying to enjoy the ride. There's so much arbitrary pressure to do something within timeframe X, leading to laughable technobabble or Pfeiffer Ex Machina solutions. It's an enjoyable and watchable movie with some fun size changing trickery, but it felt really lazily plotted. And Ghost could've been so much cooler, just take a look at these Thunderbolts issues as an example and hey where'd everybody go? Hello?

I’m so marvel’d out that I now get dazzled when there is almost no mention of an avenger or a larger (everyone needs to mention size in an ant man mini review or face the consequences) world destroying conflict. The young cgi Michael Douglas is always too thin in the face , I remember Wall Street Michael Douglas that man ate steak tartare off of the butts of everyone

There's something lost in the Marvel design of making all their villains have relatable causes for their grievances. The villains here are too sympathetic. The highlight is using the suits (because their superpowers are suit related like so many in the MCU) against the ghost in neat ways. In other words, the van fight was excellent. However, my wife missed it and upon return I said aloud, "There was a good fight between a Wasp Woman, an Ant-Man and a ghost," and it sucked some of the joy out.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is... passable. As I've said in previous Marvel reviews, the fire is running out. I'm getting tired of similar shticks and tones for every one of these movies. While they are all technically good, A&TW definitely is on the lower quality end of recent Marvel releases. Don't get me wrong, it's still funny at times and some of the action is good, it's just so damn safe and often uninteresting.

A Marvel film that's not afraid to stay small in its approach - so many of its best elements, like the actors' chemistry and the highly inventive fight sequences, fly under the radar (pun unintended, but I'm keeping it). I personally think its lack of a true villain is one of its assets, especially as a palette cleanser in between Thanos arm wrestling tournaments.

Ant-Man and the Wasp like it's predecessor is a refreshingly small addition to the MCU following the mammoth scale and scope of Infitiny War. Paul Rudd & Evangeline Lily are a convincing duo, Michael Pena adds to the comic relief and Michael Douglas is by far the standout. Whilst the set pieces and comedy both entertain, by MCU standards and expectations this sequel ranks amongst the more forgettable entries. But I enjoy what Peyton Reed does with these films and there is a lot to admire.

Yeah so what they can make Michael Douglas look like he's forty with CGI, Paul Rudd rolls out of bed looking like he's in his twenties. Stan Lee's up for a cameo at ninety-five well guess what Paul Rudd is a leading man and he's currently a hundred and thirty-seven years old. Fellas I'm laying down the freshest take on Paul Rudd you've ever seen right here. I mean he's gotta be a vampire because the guy never ages, right? Like...this is him now, feel old yet? Although maybe it was my shrinking expectations, possibly related to some post-"Avengers: Infinity War"(2018) fatigue, but this ended up being a pleasantly entertaining entry into the MCU. As others have said, it serves as a perfect palate cleanser for the intense "Infinity War" aftertaste, which by comparison makes this feel like a fun Saturday morning cartoon TV-special. Enjoyable sequel that rivals, the original. Probably not the best of the MCU, but really solid lazy cable fodder.

Given the essentially silly nature of the powers this needs to be funny to work, & comedy's very subjective. For me a lot of the jokes in the first 1/2 fell flat (many of them built around the contrast of characters having conversations inappropriate to the context they're in), but around the time 1 character takes a truth serum things got funnier & better. The actors are old faves (the newcomer villain's also great) & the stakes related to Pfeiffer's character feel high enough to stay invested

A fun movie with weirdly small super-heroes. Lots of action and a mixed bag of CGI. I liked the cast and the humor. I especially liked seeing Evangeline Lilly. The story was alright but not great. I did not like the physics nor the quantum realm. It has some nonsense, but it's mostly fun, entertaining, and worth watching.

OK so I watched this right after Endgame and to be quite honest it was a breath of fresh air. Pena's character started to grate but having Goggins eating scenery for dinner and Pfeiffer exemplifying grace and beauty more than made up for it. It wasn't perfect, but it was more than I expected!

I might be in the minority but overall I think this film was better than the original Ant-Man. The story isn't as good, in fact it kind of sounds more like a sequel to "InnerSpace" and the villains were severely lacking but as a feel good, turn your brain off and has a fun time comic book movie it was great. The plot leaves a few things to be desired (namely, less of the increasingly convenient and far-fetched tech and its accompanying untethered babble; also, resolving things with the Ghost could've been done a lot earlier), but everything around it is quite satisfying: the characters are likeable, the jokes are frequent and funny (see the truth serum bit), and the size-changing action is lots of fun (the visual effects here are excellent and quite clever-see the final reveal at the drive-in).

In the wake of Infinity War, the lighthearted nature of Ant-Man and the Wasp feels almost too trite and weightless. The lack of major stakes causes the film to feel like filler, despite its solid entertainment value and fun feel. It feels like a step back in some areas for the MCU as well, particularly the quality of the antagonists. I don't mind smaller scopes in my superhero films, but it's just too soon for this one; holding off on the release for a month or so would have helped a lot.

Whatever your feelings are on the first Ant-Man, it's likely to be your feelings on this one. They are neck-and-neck quality wise. What that means is totally entertaining for the entire running time and then utterly forgettable once it's over. I am not disappointed, it totally lived up to my expectations. It just didn't transcend them once. I would have liked more Pfeiffer but then again I probably start most mornings by declaring "I would like more Pfeiffer".

Paul Rudd is made for these types of roles. I'm still undecided on the 'make older actors appear young' techniques that has been used recently (three in this film, Star Wars, etc). Also, stay for the first ending credits but ditch the second.

If you can keep yourself from being bogged down by the science (I could, but I know from reading comments that not everyone could), you should find that this is in most ways a step up from its debut. Once again we see a movie that is insulated with a great cast (Pena in particular is even funnier this time around), and while Ghost isn't a villain, she's still preferable to the way the first portrayed Yellowjacket in terms of being "the antagonist". Ant-Man killing time? Sure. But it worked.

I have no idea why this movie exists. I guess it's just an excuse to hang out with Ant-Man for two hours, but I don't need a plot for that. Paul Rudd is my best friend, and he says I'm even sexier than the Wasp, but Marvel thought it'd be too dangerous to put me in a movie meant for teens, because they'd get too rowdy and vote for Bernie. anyway, this review made as much sense as the motivation for every character in this movie. they all come together to tide the audience over until Avengers 4

Entertaining MCU entry is at its best functioning as a light comedy, played snappier as usual with the assistance of an excellent cast playing well together; Rudd makes for the most likable smart-ass in the Marvel fold, and Douglas and Pfeiffer bring effortless class in support. The final act becomes slightly tedious, with the now obligatory series of action set pieces becoming wearying, but can't destroy the inherent and genuine charm of these characters.

While it does its best as a sequel to bring real momentum to its relatively laid-back corner of the MCU, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP feels almost like a spoof of the Marvel style. No-nonsense experts spout technobabble with the same ease that they reveal tragic family backstories, all undercut by a constant stream of self-effacing quips from a borderline-smug hero. That's not to say the film lacks entertainment value, but the formula becomes noticeably stale the more it is relied upon.

I feel like this gets more flack because of it's smaller scale, and self contained stakes. It doesn't really build into IW/EG, and I actually kinda like that. It's more so the same of the first, but doesn't really carry interesting antagonists like the first. A lot of the corny elements are still here, and the cinematography makes this so much fun. With finally adding The Wasp to the fold and having a genuinely solid last act that feels satisfying, makes this still really enjoyable.

That was better than the first one, yet there were 2 big mistakes in 5 mins which effected the plot very much. Also, there's a serious problem with the adaptation of Ghost. Besides these, I liked it; especially the car-skate scene. Ps: I think Paul Rudd should be a little bit more original. He looks like a copy of Deadpool.

Your opinion of this follow-up will be very similar to how you felt about the first one. The humor isn't as crisp, the main villain can be ignored, and there's a lot of suspense-of-disbelief going on with the science, but it's as enjoyable as the first. The first stinger is great for the MCU story, the one after the credits isn't wort it.

Too many factions fighting with various degrees of conflicting agendas. Interrupts itself constantly when The Thing They're Trying To Do is about to happen and Group X is next in line to steal the plot device. 2 hours of trying to use one machine without interruption - It's a real grind. Could've been a lot better if the generic bad guy group and the dull security startup B-plot were cut - the core Hank/Hope/Scott dynamic is quite solid, and would only have benefited from more screentime.

Doesn’t offer too much beyond some chuckle worthy humor, the charm of Paul Rudd and a few clever action beats with the resizing gimmick. Softly plotted, with a weak MacGuffin in the portable lab and too many, too weak villains. More of a post-Infinity War palate cleanser than a true full-bodied film that will be remembered in years to come.

This is a cool film and much better than the first one. Also, everone says that DC has great villains. This film proves that you don't need a perfect villain for a good superhero film. The hero just needs obstacles to overcome. Scot, Hank and Hope managed to achieve that. And the result is far better than that mamma's boy Steppenwolf.

The first was a pleasant surprise that was a little slow at the beginning, but this got right into it. Before the action got heavy it was one of the funniest flicks of the year, and the action--as with the first--was inspired: the big/small dynamic coupled with phasing made for some pretty exciting fights, and neither movie gets the credit they deserve for that. Rudd is Rudd, he's so amazing, I still think he's one of the main reasons these movies work so well. Ava's a good "villain."

I got a lot of laughs and I kind of liked how the heroes and villains were just kind of haggling out their own shit and there wasn't much threat to the normies running around San Francisco. Is Ant-Man and the Wasp a bad movie? No, it's not. It's a decently entertaining and moderately funny distraction. As a summer blockbuster, that's usually enough. But it had the potential to be a lot more. It's too unfocused and has too many subplots which take away from the story it's trying to tell and the characters involved in it. It also has a much more interesting subplot that's relegated to little more than a distraction for its protagonists. [Full Review]

I thought the first one was better, but this worked well enough as a follow-up. I loved all the size-changing gags - they were really the highlight for me. The plot itself is a bit messy and conventional though. It had some funny bits, but most of the jokes fell flat for me. Rudd’s the same. I still don’t get what people see in Lilly - she has almost zero charisma. Peña’s still funny. I had fun with it for the most part, but it didn’t feel like the breath of fresh air the first one was.

Retroactive 63=>65 for buildup to Endgame. Similar throwaway of a movie as the first - the characters start to fill out a little more with a second movie, the characters a little less stock and the humor a bit better. They do less with the size-shifting however, and it still doesn't tie much to the greater MCU.

First time in about a year I've been to the cinema. Saw Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) the day after the Norwegian premier with a whooping 6 people in total in the cinema! I loved the first Ant-Man (2015), and I really liked this sequel as well. A ton of humor and funny mini-gimmicks. What sealed the deal with the first one, was the Thomas the Tank Engine scene. This didn't have the same great moment, but the Hot Wheels idea was close! A entertaining inoffensive family action this blockbuster.

Works best when it's just being Scott goofing around, trying to balance being in house-arrest with trying to help people. Some of those scenes with the FBI dude was pure comedy gold. Works worst, when there's a lot of dramatic technobabble trying to set up the quantum realm for use in a later MCU movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp delivers even more fun of various sizes. I loved it just as much as the original and it's another example of a sequel done right. The special effects are a thing of beauty and the clever action sequences will leave you in awe. It's not bad but suffers from the burden of being an in-between film. No origins or explanations for how the plot is resolved, (spoilers) Michelle Pfeiffer's fingers glow and everything is alright. Some of the laziest dialogue A:"Wait, your pain, I can feel it.' The story is neat and compact and it's a nice refresher after Infinity War. But, I dunno. I always seem to hit Marvel Fatigue when every Ant-Man movie comes out. Maybe because they're always just good enough and I'd rather watch another stellar Spider-Man or something.

Fun and light-hearted. As enjoyable as the other Marvel movies are, this is rather relieving to not watch the fate of the universe at stake. The action pieces were inventive and entertaining.

It's a definitely fun film that doesn't have the grand scale as its MCU brethren, and while it's not as good on the whole as the first, it definitely does things better than the first (particularly Evangeline Lilly!). I thought it moved at too much of a clip, which is a common refrain among superhero films these days, but this movie didn't need to be slow and contemplative. It was fun, had some good moments, and I was satisfied.

Good fun, feels more integrated into the MCU now. I loved how everyone calls Scott a plank for what he did in Civil War.

If you're bored of the typical Marvel third act with CGI-overload of digital things shooting and exploding, this one's for you. Smaller stakes, more heart, more fun.

Call me a Marvel fanboy, but I really enjoy these lighthearted smaller films. I like Rudd as a not very funny guy, I like Douglas as a sweet old man and I adore Lilly in everything she has ever done.

pretty much par as the first one, ant-man and co is good clean fun. it embraces its tongue in cheek nature fully and doesn't aspire to anything deeper like some other mcu movies. it still relies heavily on rudd's charisma and comedic chops, thankfully he delivers. the villain and the plot, though, is pretty forgettable.

Arguably the funniest Marvel movie. It's built to feel slight, I think, which I find to be refreshing and mature. There's zero weight to any of it, so the best we can get is a cathartic sensation as each set piece subsides. Paul Rudd is excellent as always, but Michael Pena steals the show once again.

Enjoyable and simple in equal measure. The cast are its biggest assess by some distance and they drag the entertainment and good humour out of some fairly unexceptional writing and direction. I am a total sucker for some unnecessary sci-fi gibberish and on a quantum level this pushed that button for me! A fun addition to the MCU, even if Ant-Man as a property is crying out for a director more inventive than Reed.

Another good entry in the MCU canon,I can't help but feel Pfeiffer is wasted in this,as with Bassett is in BP. You have great actresses, use them.I am enjoying them fleshing out the history of the MCU and would kill for an 80s proto-Avengers with thr de-aged 80s A-listers we have here. Was great to see E-Lilly have something to do and actually be more formidable than Rudd. Some great set pieces. Just a bit of a struggle to be relevant in the canon when you have to follow Infinity War.

Marvel's villains are getting better and better with more understandable and relatable motivation. Paul Rudd is hilarious as always and the trademark humor of MCU really supports him. Overall light, sweet and cheeky movie. The action scenes are not predominant, but things getting big and small and huge and tiny was enough for me.

I don't know if I am a Marvel fan or what but they can hardly do anything wrong nowadays. Every movie of theirs is a winner. This particular instalment makes numerous references to the previous ones (I don't recall Ant-Man and Captain America teaming up in Germany); so you might want to do your homework before you watch it. After all the credits have rolled over, there is a mind-blowing reference to a recent Marvel movie too. Anyway, this is a fun movie to watch.

Arguably the weakest entry into the official MCU. Coming on the heels of a real snappy movie, this feels weaker in comparison. The cast is still likable, but the high amounts of inconsistent sci-fi gibberish and incoherent character motivations make this more of a slog to get through. The fact that the post-credits scenes is more enthralling then the entire rest of the movie speaks volumes.

simple but cute. rudd's dad performance is actually quite endearing. perhaps more time could have been spent with the starring trio, but the comedic subplots are funny enough. loved the security team haha.

And another one I forgot to rate in my try at watching all the MCU movies before watching Avengers: Infinity War. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first one. Some scenes where great, and the clip after the end credits was awesome. *Good

This was an awkward viewing experience for me because I found myself caring more about how this ties to IW than anything about the movie itself. For good reason - The conflict was forced (why couldn't they just talk up a solution?), the action scenes were mostly tepid and uninteresting, everyone was either bland or insufferable (Hank Pym being the only exception), and the resolution was a total asspull. But hey, at least I got my answer about IW when all was said and done!

The smaller scale works for this hero but there is a lot of lag here. It comes off as boring. Only the likable cast raises it slightly above average.

Refreshingly small in scale and has some good comedy bits, largely thanks to Peña, but all in all it is utterly mediocre. The tone is all over the place and the comedic beats kill any dramatic heft it tries to leverage. The editing is not helping and the direction is uninspired. The actors do not elevate the mediocrity of the filmmaking, outside of the aformentioned Peña. Can someone besides Tarantino please use Walton Goggins correctly in a movie? Also, quantum healing particles? Come on!

This sequel felt a little too similar to the first one. Rudd is one of those actors who can make anything entertaining, so it comes as no surprise. The post-credit scene is definitely a standout and gets you excited for what's coming.

I really quite enjoyed this light, fun entry into the Marvel Universe. It was... adorable. And it was the first MCU movie with a female title character. (Elektra I think it the only other Marvel movie with a female title character).

A child-friendly entry, and I was worried about the very high amount of talky exposition that seems to clutter up the script - I suspect the quality of writing has dropped. But, for a sequel, I was astonished at how fresh it felt, and was left thinking that I really want to watch more adventures in the lives of this little group of people. Loved my time spent with them all. My little nephew claims it is "The best Marvel movie yet" and I hope there'll be a similarly child-friendly toned sequel.

As the 20th film in the MCU, Ant-Man and the Wasp manages to stave off the superhero fatigue for now. It's the first film that doesn't have an actual villain, positioning new characters as obstacles to a time-sensitive mission. In this way the film maintains the intensity we expect from the genre, with stakes that are more personal than world-ending. The entire cast is great. My only minor quip is the style, especially the jokes, seem to align too closely with the first film.

It has all the positive things about 1st movie and also get rid off most of the negative things about 1st movie. So its a good deal but still so much science mambo jambo that means anything for the plot. And villain (semi-villain) of the film is better than the 1st terrible villain but still suffering and still unrealistic. How she act, plays is just too much like a video game boss. Its overacted. Also story has a lot of plotholes too. So its entertaining, has some dedication into it

Exceptionally canned. From its jokes to its drama, everything feels pulverized to make it easy going down. It's exactly what's on the label, but leeched of all creativity, humour, and significance. Unpleasant.

W3E1P1S1V1M1A1R1. Fine, and admirable in its ability to be essentially a standalone action film, without needing to rely much on the MCU or even its prequel. But then the same could be said about Spiderman: Homecoming, and that had way more oomph to it, and fewer plot holes.

Ant-Man and the Wasp does everything a Marvel sequel should. It retains the style and clever story telling of the original. All the while adding new twists and buckets of emotion. All in all, This sequel proves yet again that Marvel a rule all it's own in making sequels better than the original.

marvel movies are beginning to feel like they're ai-generated, pulled from a slushy stew of blockbuster scenes and quips and character types which are then assembled into a face that didn't exist before but will leave no imprint whatsoever on your memory
