Wendigo? More like Wendistop! Scott Cooper is out there right now planning his next movie.

There are elements I like - it realizes the part of America that looks dead inside and knows it looking in the mirror, and goes about its gray and gloomy life praying for relief from anything but a wendigo, but a wendigo is what it gets, like it’s bottom-shelf bourbon. This may be the worst sentence I ever write but killing a child should have more impact than a half-hearted “mreh” that is forgotten as soon as it happens. On that note it’s as American a folk horror as you’ll find, however dull.

I do like the practical effects and the creature is pretty creepy but this is mostly just a bad road that these trauma focused horror films are leading us down. Miserable and unfocused on anything (it’s about like 7 different traumas). The “native” element feels tacked on for no reason (seriously they go and talk to Greene’s character about it and nothing was really learned from it? He even asks if the kid is native and it isn’t touched on), although I’m glad Greene is getting work from it.

Pretty effective little chiller, playing up the real-world horror thanks to a very good performance by the lead kid. Good monster design too.

Some pace problems -- climax never hits like it should -- and the atmosphere feels truly creepy -- mining small-town Oregon with post-apocalyptic vibes, no jobs, no money, everyone looks depressed and tired, so the perfect stage for body folk horror shit. Too bad Cooper takes ages to set things off -- specially the folk themes --, but at least the monster design delivers and cast looks pretty haunted.

It does some things right, but it's also too repetitive and stale.

Unfortunately, this movie never manages to outshine its premise. The concept is great; a young boy forced to hide a terrifying secret in his home while still trying to be a regular student. But there's no real gravitas to the story, the editing is inconsistent, the logistics are off, and the movie ultimately becomes yet another predictable, almost boring attempt to use real world mythos without giving it the due unpackaging and respect. Without Del Toro's name, I'd have never even seen it.

Damn, this was so disappointing and just generic, honestly. I did enjoy the creature design.

It's got some pretty good moods and I always love a good monster design. The one in this movie is very cool and the whole 'bad parents will haunt you as monsters' -thing creates for a very interesting angle for the usual horror genre tropes. It's just not very scary at any point and it doesn't use the lore it has to its full potential. It's still a decent horror movie and worth watching just for the monster design alone.

The wendigo remains a top tier mythological creature that has yet to receive a decent movie adaptation.

Most of the scenes are quite dark and we do see the monster, if only briefly at times. It could scare more squeamish people I suppose. I didn't fully follow the storyline properly. It's got a bit of a spooky folktale feel to it - indeed I wasn't entirely surprised to see GdT (Guillermo del Toro) credited as a producer. I suppose it has a sort of urban type horror feel to it, like Pan's Labyrinth but its not as good. However, I didn't follow the story, so it didn't really stand out. Not memorable

Reminds me of the seemingly forgotten sect of horror movies from my high school years where you didn't need a franchise, or a dozen sequels, or a remake to pump out a mildly entertaining, yet hardly scary horror movie for it to only be forgotten a year or two later. While "Antlers" takes an underutilized monster (a wendigo) and does a decent job at it, it's not making any waves and doesn't leave a hell of an impression one way or the other.

Hollywood takes the Wendigo and makes it far less frightening than it should be. Nothing particularly bad, but it feels like a drama with a few horror scenes added in. Watching this shortly after having played Until Dawn for the first time made it even more disappointing.

Genç oyuncu Jeremy Thomas'ın performansı filmin önünü açsa da genel olarak sinematografi, senaryo ve hikâye konusundaki sıkıntılar filmi kötü bir korku filminden öteye taşıyamıyor.

Fantastik korku. 2 çocuklu kötü işlerde çalışan babamız, ıssız 1 fabrikanın bodrumunda 1 yaratık tarafından saldırılır. Baba, kötü 1 iblise dönüşen yaratığa dönüşmektedir. Küçük oğlan, babası için avlanmaktadır. Merdiven Altındakiler filmiyle esinlenilen korku, karanlık ve bodrum kat fobisinden faydalanıyor. Küçük oğlan iyi oynuyor. Filmin sonunda, Jesse Plemons. İçimde boynuz var. Boynuz takmışsın.

Excellent effects. I think maybe Jesse Plemons is an alcoholic or has Parkinson's as he was acting very strangely.

There are some identifiable traces of producer Guillermo del Toro's work here, but they are all visual and of little consequence. Russell and Plemons work to add some dimension to their characters, but there's really nothing to work with. The monster is rooted in Native American mythology (which Graham Greene shows up to explain and then promptly vanishes from the film), but it's entirely irrelevant. It could be a werewolf or a vampire or a killer beaver and it would all play out the same way.

Incredibly boring after the beginning 10 minutes. Creature design was good but unremarkable in everything else. Worst of all: there isn't a single thrill in the whole movie. Bonus negative points for the stupid "twist" at the end.

It is very atmospheric due to the lore and the setting within the remote Oregon town. It does take a while to get going but it does rather well at building the tension and providing a satisfying payoff in the end. Plemons and Russell are both admirable but it is Jeremy Thomas as Lucas who steals the show. His performance is complicated and his character is a broken boy just trying to do what he feels is the right thing. Solid movie even though it was not as scary as I thought it would be.

Some good elements. I typically enjoy Antosca's writing, but this one felt only half baked on the screen. Cooper is also a director I enjoy quite a bit and I think his experience elevated this a little versus where it could have gone in less capable hands. Far too many strobe scenes especially when watching an hdr copy. The constant emergency lights flashing was nauseating for those of us sensitive folks. Acting was only avg from Plemons surprisingly. A somewhat pedestrian 5.3 on the whole.

As a fan of the short story, this movie felt like it was so close to being something truly great but was hindered by the addition of a bunch of unnecessary character backgrounds and exposition that ultimately accomplishes nothing. The atmosphere, the practical effects, and the monster design were all great but the movie just sort of meanders around before fumbling in the final act.

The mood is effective, and it does admirably go to some dark places. However, the plot, dialogue, and details are simply too generic.
