A group of tourists on a pleasure cruise around the Greek islands discover a remote village which seems to be abandoned, where they are stalked by a cannibalistic maniac. Poor acting and a plodding pace, but it offers up a few gory treats. The scene with George Eastman ripping the fetus from a pregnant Serena Grandi and eating it was a watershed moment in the Video Nasty controversy.

All I know about the Greek islands is from Video Nasties and ... I will not be visiting. I’m staring at the cover in disbelief - this was somehow boring.

Att angöra en brygga 2: The Bryggening. Truly glorious soundtrack.

lmao @ bof's review, that is a deep cut reference. With the shared Greek island environment I want an edit of Mamma Mia that nonsensically splices the fetus bite into Brosnan's rendition of S.O.S.

The VHS copy I bought of this is the censored US release, which cuts the fetus scene and the autocannibalism at the end. This is like removing the Marseillaise and airport scenes from Casablanca. Otherwise, it's alright. Really sags in the middle, but I assume the uncut third act would make up for it.

A slow, ponderous film that is arguably only worth seeing for the last 20 minutes or so. Dedicated genre directors: You guys don't seem to be so good at slow-moving movies where nothing of consequence happens until the very end, why do you keep making them?

One of the best "video Nasties" I've seen. The gore is not over-used and is actually pretty effective. I would cautiously reccomend this film.

Typical early 80ies italian schlock that really picks up after a boring first hour. There's a scene where a foetus is eaten, so the movie isn't a total waste of time.

A "video nasty" which is surprisingly tame, given its reputation. Maybe I'm just becoming desensitised. It opens with a couple of slayings, but then nothing seems to happen for what seems like an eternity. The Greek island setting is reasonably atmospheric, and Eastman does have a certain presence. I think the music worked reasonably well. It all kicks up a notch towards the end, including a couple of notorious sequences which seem a bit tame now. For genre fans/the curious only, I reckon.

This movie has great gore, a nice atmospheric location, tedious dialogue, a weirdly silly score and spells of long boring scenes between the killings.

I think "Zombie The Greek" would be a more descriptive title. This starts off very true to the style of European mystery movies of the era - lots of dialogue, beautiful settings, very little sense to the actions of the protagonists. Later, the style is influenced more by American horror, as the cast get sequentially bumped off in macabre and very random ways. The gory effects range from quite effective blood and guts shots to bad makeup jobs and fake rubber heads. Not classic but not the worst.

My probable score for this movie was a 69. Nice ha ha. The flick has some shocking gore, the rest is a dull slog that never seems to end. Viewed because of The Last Drive In, which usually has good picks. This wasn't one of them.

What a title! What a poster! What a total lack of anything of note happening for the vast majority of the runtime! It's hard to believe this is a banned film because it's shocking any regulator managed to sit through it long enough to get to the gore at the end. The final encounter with the Antropophagus only happens because our hero is dumb enough to stick her head in a well and fall down it for no reason

A really lame combination of explicit gore and travelogue photography, it was popular enough (in Europe at least) to inspire a sequel.
