This is a well made drama about an interesting true story. I thought the performances were good and its relatively thought provoking - the discrimination faced by the couple is frustrating and I can certainly imagine it having happened. It is somewhat sentimental - some people may feel its a bit too cheesy for their liking but I wouldn't say its entirely over the top in a forced sentimentality sense. Its sobering and thoughtful and there's also some amusing moments.

A beautiful, genuinely moving piece. This poignant tale of a gay couple attempting to adopt a child in the late '70s drew derision and criticism of mawkishness from some quarters, but it completely worked for me. An emotional powerhouse of a story, showcasing some spectacular work from Alan Cumming, Garret Dillahunt and new-to-film Isaac Leyva. Highly recommended.
