Woody Allen's new romantic comedy is a lesson in the reality that loves at first sight isn't always 20/20. Jerry Falk (Biggs) learns that lesson the hard way when he falls head over heels in love with the beautiful but flighty Amanda (Ricci). (DreamWorks Pictures)

I think this is the best of Woody in his mediocre period.

Woody Allen is a joke writer. In this movie he plays a character who is a joke writer. Which I'm all for, because no one can deliver a Woody Allen joke as well as Woody Allen: "Crazy? She IS crazy. The Pentagon should use her hormones for chemical warfare!"

a vastly enjoyable flick that shows obvious traits of an allen movie, even if the two leads are entirely miscast. i have a firm belief that had biggs and ricci been replaced with people more capable of portraying allen characters this could have been up there with his best. allen's penmanship has not dawdled in the new millennium, even if other aspects of his film making have appeared piecemeal.

Not great Allen, but still worthwhile. Christina Ricci is so good in this evil part that I want to kill her, and I am a non-violent pussycat of a man.

Sorely misguided and ill-advised . . . but still having a basic level of professionalism and quality that we have come to expect from Woody.

Woody may be lazy as fuck, but at least he is endlessly -and mostly guiltlessly- watchable.

This is pretty enjoyable whenever Allen and DeVito are on screen. Allen himself hogs nearly all of the good jokes, like the masturbation bit, his whole spiel about self-defense and taking Biggs to buy a rifle, him smashing up the car, and the closing bit with the traffic cops. The rest of it mostly just sits there and feels like 5 hours. Occasionally manages to coast on Biggs heroically doing his best as one of Woody's most implausible surrogate characters.

Jason Biggs does a decent job of playing "The Woody Allen character".

Christina Ricci is borderline unwatchable in a regular film; in a Woody Allen movie she is, somehow, even worse. Ordinary actors are generally elevated by his writing, but ironically the opposite is true here. Jason Biggs is not much better. At least Woody and DeVito are great.

Hey, this one's actually really good, mostly because Jason Biggs is fantastic as the Woody Allen substitute! It's a lot of fun to see him go toe-to-toe with Woody at Woody's own game. There's also good stuff from Danny DeVito, some superb jokes and gorgeous photography. "I resented the fact that they implied that Auschwitz was basically just a theme park."

For late-Woody (pre-Match Point), it's not too bad.

I like Jason Biggs, and although Christina Ricci grated my nerves more than ususal this time (though I think it was her character's intent) I dig Allen's take on ass backwards romantic comedies.

I love this eccentric comedy. J-Biggs is very endearing and this movie, strikes me as a remake of Annie Hall which I can enjoy considerably more. Just the right amount of Woody Allen in this too.

Woody's presence on screen elevates the entire thing. I want to see the "Jason Biggs and Woody Allen are friends" movie. Christina Ricci though... oof. Poorly written and even more poorly acted.

Slightly above-average if you can get past Jason Biggs doing his best Woody Allen and Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller's Day Off impressions the entire movie.

Couldn't finish it. Watching Jason Biggs forcibly stutter at the beginning of literally every sentence is like some kind thespian torture. The acting is so painfully deadpan, not believable at all.

I went in fairly skeptical, and yeah it’s kind of annoying seeing Jason Biggs pretty much just play young Woody Allen. But surprisingly despite that it kinda breezed by for me; a lot of funny moments and I enjoyed what a disaster the main guy’s life was. His chick is such a maelstrom it’s almost less a romantic comedy than some kind of horror movie. As the film went on and I realized that was intentional it won me over a bit.

I really enjoyed this one. Interesting and funny, with mostly great acting, apart from Biggs (not that he is all bad, but rest of the crew is much better). Best of it, it is non action comedy, basically, this script could be performed in theater, and thus, good translation into movie of such script is even more powerful. And this IS a very good translation.

Average. Biggs and Ricci aren't right at all, the material was over their heads. It's got a lot of stuff that feels recycled from past Allen films. Also, there are some long close-ups that feel very awkward and inappropriate (that Bergman influence, no doubt). But, there are a few laugh-out-loud moments.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Wasn't expecting much with Biggs as the lead but he actually wasn't too bad. Woody does steal every scene he's in and the stuff with DeVito was great. NYC looks really beautiful in this too.

Familiar but still kind of cute. Doesn't deserve half the hate it gets, but it does deserve some of it. Jason Biggs should be locked in solitary confinement from now until the end of recorded time.

This is an underrated Woody Allen film. Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci are both good in this film and the Woodman himself is good in a supporting role. This is not my favorite Woody Allen movie but I still enjoyed it a lot.
