Apocalyptic

A very good found footage horror movie. Not only is it surprisingly decent, it's also continuously entertaining. The growing sense of dread feels natural and very real, which is amplified by the slow and deliberate pace. It takes a long time for shit to really hit the fan, and honestly, that build-up is the part I enjoyed the most. The last act of this movie feels a bit mandatory, and is therefore slightly underwhelming. But overall, I really enjoyed experiencing this creepy and fucked-up story.

The leader was unconvincing and the build-up was quite long, considering that there were no ideas for the final act other than to follow the Jonestown model (appending a predictable and telegraphed "twist" by way of conclusion).

jesus christ project.... basically nothing happening in the movie, but it's still a decent try. i just wish there was a little bit more horror in it. may be nerve wrecking for certain type of audience.

There must have been at least two dozen cult-themed horror movies in the last five or six years alone, and most of them were "found footage", so Glenn Triggs is either spectacularly oblivious or has some nerve. Of the many I've seen, Apocalyptic is still decidedly above average. It offers absolutely nothing new, but it goes through the ropes ably, tastefully and effectively, and there's something to be said for modest ambitions.
