Despite its rich world-building and imagination, this steampunk animation didn't press that many of my buttons. I found the plot too chaotic and rambunctious, a constant barrage of chases, explosions, and deus-ex-machina plot devices with too little heart behind it all. The character design was a let-down too, simplistic and repetitive in a way that might pass in a cheap tv cartoon, but not the cinema. I always want independent animations to do well, but this was not up to par for its genre.

A bit long and expository, and the plot gets quite ridiculous towards the end, but the world is beautifully animated and the alternate-history has some amusing environmental parallels to our own. April and her cat are a likable duo. Probably a better watch for children than adults.

Shockingly awful. I never expected an alternate history movie about science and a cat could be so bad.

Having grown up on adventurous European comics, this one ignited my mental sensors. An alternative time-line with an extended Napoleon era where science takes holt when famous brains keep disappearing, with the world looking very different then it really would have in 1941. Brilliant stuff! Perhaps lacking something special to really lift-off, but it's still an extraordinary world that starts the imagination running.

Somebody watches a lot of Ghibli. Unfortunately watching a lot of Ghibli does not a good filmmaker make. I suppose it could have used more steam-driven airships, mystic badgers, and giant beetles, but I would have settled for a story that didn't suck le balls truque.

Love the artwork, I wish the story was a little longer.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Long intro, but the epilogue was wonderful.

Too exposition-heavy and the emotional beats feel a bit rushed and shallow (especially the ending), but it's still amusing at times. The animation is great and adds a lot of flavor.

I love the ideas that set up and carry the narrative, and am glad we have another enjoyable animated feline to go with Kiki's companion Gigi. The film is pretty frenetic, however. It would do better to give its ideas (and animation) some space to breathe.

If you were to spoil this, I don't think anyone would believe you (just watch and see what I mean). Completely out there yet utterly fantastic. Animation is on point, charm oozes everywhere and on top of that it even has Marion Cotillard's voice! Can guarantee you'll have a whole lot of fun here and It's well worth seeking out.

Fun and creative film. Lizards, lasers, steampunk, French and really interesting world. It watches more like a fairy tale though.

Nice little animated adventure movie with no pretense of being anything more than that. It reminded my of reading comics as a kid (the European, not the American kind).

Boring movie, too long although the steampunk and the idea seemed nice at the beginning it slowly falls into boredom kingdom. Not that bad, though.

Beautifully-drawn and had a nice premise - but the script was painfully shallow.

Beautiful art design and animation set in a steampunk world, but the overlong and convoluted story never takes off.

Lovely animation and amazing cinematography, a predictable plot that's fun once it gets going... based on worldbuilding that makes no sense and looms far too large to ignore, delivered in a half-hour dump with multiple time-skips from 1860 to 1941. I've never seen a world described in this much detail where the implications of those details were thought about so little! I have to assume that the original comic took its time to develop these ideas, but cramming it all into one film didn't work.

Now, that is really an "extraordinary" imagination and creation.
