Argentina, 1985

This is fine but doesn't really get above that. It's a story I didn't know much about, but it's kind of just a straightforward telling of it and I didn't think it really fully captured the odds they were up against or the time crunch very well, even though it mentions those things. It's not bad by any means but just feels pretty unremarkable. It doesn't really have the gravitas it feels the story should.

Methodical, well-produced courtroom drama can't avoid falling into genre tropes (there's a glibness to some of the supporting characters that feels imported from a Grisham film!); it keeps its grip thanks to Darin's rock-solid lead anchor, and the skillful interweaving of archival footage and recreations during the courtroom scenes. May lack the more pensive weight that such a serious subject might justify, but as it is, an easily accessible and entertaining dose of heady historical information.

Just felt a bit too much like a TV docu-drama.

Viewer will probably benefit if they are somewhat familiar with the premise of the story, because going in cold, it was somewhat confusing.

Well-made procedural about an unusual political and legal situation that I had never heard about.

Interesting subject matter that was respectfully approached. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any tensions or excitement from the movie. Everything felt toned down and rides totally on Ricardo Darín delivery and very little else. Servers better as a history lesson.

"Argentina, 1985" is a definite crowd-pleaser that succeeds with dexterity in telling a difficult story. While it has a few missteps in its final moments, the film engages the audience with its skillful storytelling, raw dramatic impact, and masterful performances.

Interesting subject and solid acting by Darín, but it doesn't transcend the level of a TV-movie.

Very well built and expertly acted. Darín is as good as usual and the tension holds throughout.

The typical case of "important" film whose main quality is to broaden its historical discourse on the relevance of accountability. That said, the script tries hard to not oversimplify things -- even when it does -- and the cast deliver all the goods you'd expect from a thrilling legal drama.
