It was pretty much what I expected when I went to see it. Very silly, very funny, and very french. A good quality tribute to the classic comic, funny and engaging, and surprisingly beautifully done.

The story ends up dragging on a bit too much, but the animation was interesting. Turning drawings into 3D animation is not always easy, the style can be lost. In this, the plastic action figure look works well. The skin and hair texture are not always perfect, but the sets are vibrant and nice to look at.

I pretty much echo everything PUNQ says in his review. I love Asterix and Obelix and I had a lot of fun with this but the film and all the films do failed to live up to the masterpiece that are the original comics.

Astérix fights urbanisation and gentrification. The film is amusing though not much more. Cute animation and a nice score, but a little bland. I have a soft spot for 1999's Astérix & Obélix contre César; while both films share several jokes (which I'm assuming come from the comics), this animated film lacks a je-ne-sais-quois.

- I'm a big Asterix fan. I read all the (old) comics untill they fell apart. So this should have been in my alley. The 3d animations needed some getting used to, but that's not my beef with this. What is that while all the familiar faces and lovely little aspects do show up, the whole movie left me cold. It missed the real hearth and cleverness of the old comics, but like the new comics.

I love this story as the original comicbook. This adaptation has changed the story very different. I am not sure is it a good thing. I noticed that they didn't know how to build the story when the movie is in halfway of second act. At that point the movie became slow tempo. It's a shame that they take a classic story instead of writing something totally new. I recommend the original comicbook version of this. Even for kids.

Astérix was one of my favorite comics growing up so I was naturally looking forward to this 2014 animated movie. And I laughed a lot whenever it got violent, but the plot was a little too modern for my tastes considering the memories I have of the the Gauls. Condo problems and capitalism is not the dilemmas I want to see my strength potion maniacs dealing with. Therefore not the most captivating dramas Astérix & Obélix ever got tangled in. But by all means, entertaining!

I recommend watching this in french if you want the "feel" of french humor. Great interpretation of the comic
