I'm a sucker for a Marx brothers movie. They're as cheesey as hell thanks to the vaudeville roots, but the snappy one liners and silly visual gags that those roots provided seem to have stood the test of time better than the terrible music and shoddy love stories.

"Hey, mister. Eighteen seventy-five." - "Eighteen seventy-five! That's what I thought. The 1940 models run much smoother."

Decent amount of laughs. Not sure it works fully but you can see the memory of something great there.

It's well accepted that A.T.C is not prime Marx Brothers, marking the beginning of their decline. The script is clearly inferior material, and Buzzell lacks Woods' sense of comic timing, which reduces the potential of already fine scenes like the humorous badge exchange. The young lovers are milquetoast and a gorilla really has no place in their films. On the plus side, the scene in the midget's house is hilarious, and Groucho's performance of Lydia The Tattooed Lady is rightly revered.

one of the better marx brothers movies. i think it's a sure fire sign that it'll be a decent one if chico and harpo play their respective instruments. the plot here is amazingly forgettable, but groucho does have a couple one liners that i actually liked this time.

Decent, with some pretty good comedy bits. I've got to admit, though . . . I miss Zeppo!

There's quite a few funny scenes, including "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady "which seems to be funny because of how ridiculously smitten Groucho sounds (the benefit of singing a love song despite not being able to sing is you always sound a little more sincere than you would otherwise). But OHMYGOD are the straights really boring. Dumont was cool, but holy crap how many times were we going to hear those two idiots reprise that stupid "Two Blind Loves" song?

Under-rated Marx vehicle at last puts the boys back on the top of their game after a long spell of weak features.

I've seen recently 'A Day at the Races' and these two are quite too similar in most of the aspects. The good thing is still the scenes with the Marx Brothers, but all those songs, that love story and that so similar order of the events are too much for me. Very soon in the movie, one character asks why singing in a circus spectacle, and another one answer "People love it!". That doesn't work for me with these particular songs, sorry.

the story might be weak but "lydia the tattooed lady" alone is worth 96

Slightly lazy yet decent performance by the brothers. Cannot and won't try to understand how this romantic musical side-story was see as a good idea. C'mon, it's 1939 already.

Not prime Marx bros, but still very nice with two or three canonical scenes.

The Marx Brothers might had to share their billing with a dull romantic couple, but there are too many great Marx scenes to dismiss the great insanity At the Circus (1939)! The badge scene, the midget house, the "snowy" room search, the ostrich ride, the Harpo harp harmony and Groucho being reunited with his easy mark Margaret Dumont makes this one of the most hilarious comedies of '39!
