A miserly man eats the pits of some cherries he can't stand throwing out. A tree starts growing from the top of his head. He cuts it off; it grows back. After a while, he gives up and lets it grow, but the crowds that gather on top of his head to enjoy the tree (and leave huge mounds of trash) eventually drive him to uproot the tree. This leaves a crater on top of his head, which fills with water, which becomes a popular lake. (imdb)

Responsibility as a question of the relationship between microcosms and macrocosms, but it does seem to equate miserliness and greed, which confuses the message somewhat.

Pretty strange version of the Golden Rule with an environmentalist slant (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you), in which a man living in trash, too stupid to realize it or unable to connect the two, is driven insane by his own type of behavior.

definitely not as intriguing as A COUNTRY DOCTOR, either textually or visually, but still pretty cool with one helluva punchline.

While I was put off by Koji Yamamura's 'Inaka Isha', I enjoyed the lightheartedness of this one. The shamisen singing was a nice touch as well.

I found this awkward and lacking in substance.
