It really should not have taken reporters to work this story, but it did, and they did good work. The documentary also helps to illuminate the Karolyis' role in perpetuating a horrifically, multifacetedly abusive system.

sorry to be the only decrepit cretin in the morality bargain bin, but this flick doesn't go far enough (yay! capitalism! competitive sports!), and yet goes too far at the same time (yay! police! prison!). am i a monster? well, lock me up and throw away the key, sue me, just shoot me, etc.

Pretty efficient and by the numbers investigative doc, but I really like the Spotlight-esque approach interwined with the survivors' stories and the harrowing bigger picture that always comes into place -- that the more we get to know what happens behind elite sports' trophies, stars and records, the more we see how predatory, inhumane and just brutally money-making machines they are.

It will, it should, anger you. Such a sad thing done the women who just have a passion for their sport, and astonishing things done, just to cover a governing body's ass.. Sad sad story..

My rating is very biased, but I think this doc discusses issues that really should be talked about more. It's easy to see the big cases that get lots of media coverage and say "Well, they got justice so it's fine", but what about the years it took for this to come out? What about the people who are abused and don't have their case promoted in the media? Pedophiles are still constantly being swept under the rug or their victims are just flat out ignored.
