"Atlanta" finds itself at a strange middle ground between sketch comedy, magical realism, and a pretty depressing drama. Despite its lack of a true identity, the show finds its stride thanks to its constant innovation and ability to feel warm and jarring at the same time.

this is a show so good at so many things other shows try to do and fail, often miserably. it's an absolute gem. and it says it on the can tho. EDIT: upping this to a 90 for season 2. Teddy Perkins is an all-time great episode of TV.

I signed on to watch a comedy series and ended up depressed after every episode. Gave up half way through the first season.

I have the biggest soft spot for the work of Donald Glover, but by all means this is one that can appeal to all. Atlanta is well-written, funny and introspective, as well as well-produced, well-acted, and well-shot, with a mood and soundtrack to match. I'm only not giving it higher, becuase it most certainly has room to grow in all these fields, but for right now it is certainly top shelf.

One of the best series' in the 21st century "Peak TV" explosion. This show tackles so many seemingly disparate ideas and collects them into a meaningful whole. It also manages to be hilarious on the regular. This is up with Barry for me as one of the truly sensational TV shows that will live in people's minds for a long time and while Barry has more laser focused themes, this manages to have its cake and eat it too, covering life, the universe and everything from a localised perspective.

It has it's own thing going on, and it's pretty good. Almost on par with 'Master of None', I'd say. (1 season)

Quirky, and at times nerve-wracking, Atlanta is one of the most original television experiences I've had since Twin Peaks.

Slices of african american life. Goes off the rails as the show progresses. The last episode tells you that when black people try to serve you the same thing as others, they aren't met with the same respect and appreciation for their craft. Was it the message all along? Was this whole show just Glover experimenting with stories and tropes black people are "not supposed" to do, and lecturing his viewers at the end for not respecting the craft? Because I sure did respect his craft. Great show.

A truly phenomenal story filled with so many aspects of life, and society and racism and general human nature that there should be something here for everyone. Glover is truly a gifted actor and writer and the direction is top notch.

As boring and uninspired in its attempts at originality as Glover's music. If you think this is the best show of the last decade, you're a GODDAMN MORON.

deadpan sardonic outside-looking-in at a bizarre fucked up world is always gonna be my wavelength, and s2 really lives up to its reputation with its series of surreal existential epics. zazie beetz is the star for me, sadly but unsurprisingly she got kidnapped by multiple comic book movies right after so she's probably been shorn of all personality by now.

Easily the best show of the last 5 (10?) years through sheer punch of all the realities it depicts. Subtle and poignant when it matters, this is the US version of Peep Show.

Watched the first season in one sitting and am very excited for the second season. The show is both very dramatic and quite funny. I appreciate how surreal the show gets at times and the variety from episode to episode is commendable. Clearly the show isn't afraid to take any chances and is trying to achieve something special. Could have used a stronger overarching storyline to tie everything together. I hope they push the surreal nature even farther in the next season.

Donald Glover has created a smart, hilariously funny show with an incredibly talented cast,a great soundtrack and one of the most accurate depictions of social media I've ever seen.

I absolutely love the Atlanta approach, which I'm not sure how to even describe. I really appreciated the willingness to try a bunch of different things in various directions (from surrealism & absurdist comedy to sleepy family slice of life vignettes), and I was really into the self-contained style of the episodes. I did find it odd that they chose to end the series with the episode they did, though.

despite its 20 min lengths per episodes, atlanta achieves to become one of the best comedy and drama shows of all time and a comprehensive race study essay at the same time. its a concrete confirmation of donald glover's undeniable geniusness.

dramatic but funny, with some steps into the surreal. later on the show gets wild with independent episodes telling stories about race, from both black and white perspectives.
