Exactly the kind of cynical, amateurish, zero-budget, low-effort ripoff you expect from The Asylum, devoid of any fun or basic cinematic competence. Doesn't even reach the heights of so-bad-it's-good (if anything, it's so-bad-it's-crushing-my-faith-in-humanity-and-I'm-staring-into-the-darkness-of-the-abyss-aaarrrggggh).

Honestly, I'm just getting tired of The Asylum. Their movies are made with so little enthusiasm or energy that it's not really a fun badness, just a listless, draining one. Even the admirable riffers on MST3K had big gaps of silence for this one - there just isn't that much to get your teeth into. Dangit, when something has giant color-coded robots wielding melee weapons against an enormous monster destroying Manhattan, it shouldn't be *possible* to be this *dull*!

Simultaneous moves really fast and yet moves sooo slowly. In other words, the worst kind of crappy movie. Also it promises giant robot fights and barely includes any, that's pretty awful too.

The equivalent of trying to shit when your poop is brick hard and just a smidge too big for your sphincter - it's unnaturally stale and unnaturally painful and it stinks to boot. The actors mug like Instagram Influencers and that makes me want to die.

Pretty shit production of David Michael Latt (yup, I'll mention him in every movie he's produced) and quite boring. Features Baby, Bread and Chimp as the red, blue and green Power Rangers. It helps if the general looks like someone's grandma too

The Asylum has made a poor film again. This should not be a surprise - they get scripts written to order and knock them out in a month! Sometimes you can see what they were going for and with some extra time, care and patience they could have made a passable film and sometimes they are a confusing unfixable mess of scenes just thrown together, Atlantic Rim is in the second category.
The film is closer to Power Rangers than Pacific Rim.
