Caught somewhere between The Room and bizarro-world Mad Men fan-fiction, this utopian capitalist stroke-fest lacks the flamboyant charm of more traditional bad sci-fi, to make it enjoyably bad, when viewed as a whole.

The screenplay was comically bad. Not as terrible as I thought it would be but still one of the worst of the year. There's nothing here. It's not entertaining or insightful or engrossing or educational. It's a cheaply made waste of time. There's just nothing here.

I'm vaguely a libertarian, and far from an Ayn Rand fan. And this is a really bad movie. I mean reeeeaaalllllyyyyy bad.

Even though I find Ayn Rands philosophy tantamount to evil and am utterly repulsed by it, I did actually quite enjoy reading the book as a bit of dystopian fiction. But this isn't the book, it's the film and as a film it doesn't work - it rambles, not even trying to help a newcomer to the story and the central theme of the use of trains for long distance transport (and not planes) has been stubbornly left in when it desperately needed to be modernised to work on the screen for a modern audience.

ayn rand is a hero for anyone looking to economic evidence that being a selfish, money grubbing pig is the answer to all of life's questions. i happen to disagree quite strongly, but found myself nonetheless intrigued at how it would play out. well, it didn't, that's why there's a "part I" at the end of the title. i'll have to wait for part II to see how people with backward, self-centered ideals save the world.

The inept and evil novel, bible of greedy brats everywhere, becomes a film that's thankfully only cheap and lousy.

The musings of a particularly naive robot. Gets two entire points just because the sequel could somehow be worse, but it is wholly without merit.

I heard it would be bad. It was, but nowhere near as bad as I heard. By far the worst part was the acting. The only movie with more unlikable characters that I have ever seen was Paranormal Activity. Really it was a disappointment after seeing how the source material could be used (i.e. Bioshock). I guess they also never learned how music is made to set the mood. The music has the opposite effect that it should. I can't stress enough how horrible the music in this movie is.

I have read the book in high school. I wanted to like this movie. The movie tried to stay true to the book. Nothing worked out. The acting were stunted. The pacing was slow. The only reason I finished this movie was that I like the book. I know I am giving this movie 10 extra points because I like the book.

The script wasn't as bad as the trailer made it appear, but the actors' delivery was. This distracts from the sparse attempts to explain the philosophy that occupies most of the novel. Performances aside, it's a comfortably paced, reasonably interesting story.

Watched the first half an hour. Horrible acting, horrible soundtrack, Ayn Rand's novel is not the type of book that can be converted to a movie. And I liked the book.

I don't mind the Objectivism, but I can't forgive the shoddy acting, that awful sex scene, and the complete lack of an ending. They would have been better off investing some money and making a 3-hour-plus long epic with capable performers and a more interesting future. At best, they'd have the heroic adaptation they wanted; at worst, they'd have a somewhat enjoyable protagonist vs obstacles tale that at least has a conclusion.

I'm not familiar with the book. After watching this I don't want to be. Hilariously bad acting and an inept screenplay full of idiotic one-line snippets pretending to be philosophy. The core message seems to be that rich people deserve to be rich because their parents worked for that inheritance. If you were lazy enough to choose poor parents to give birth to you then it's entirely your fault. And socialism isn't a philosophy, socialists exist only to be nihilistically evil.

Rand's capitalist heroes r far removed from the Gordon Gekkos of the world. They have a cast-iron integrity u won't find outside of stories involving unicorns. Despite what steel magnate Rearden says, his real passion is accomplishment itself. Rand's protagonists choose their principles over money every time & will actually destroy the empires they've slaved over before compromising! They're capitalist fantasies, but fans of the unusual may find such brazen elitism a unique & fascinating watch.

For those who wonder what a daytime boardroom soap would look like if the characters stopped the sex and actually worked in their jobs, you’ve found your movie! Fascinating and perversely enjoyable, though pretty dreadful by any objective means; stilted line deliveries of even more stilted and pompous board room speak, but it’s all done with a pious earnestness that’s almost strangely touching. Disappointing lack of tunnels to go with all of those shots of the rolling, throbbing trains….
