A clear example of skewed priorities, placing style over substance. The good news is that it's a well crafted style, with an excellently curated, but overly used sound track. And the fight sequences are awesomely brutal, but there's just not a good enough story or dialog to back it up.

Neon-drenched Euro-spy retro stuff that's more style than substance, but what style! The action is thrilling, with a stairway/apartment brawl standing out as one of the most satisfying shootypunch scenes of the year. And sure, I admit, I'm weak; put Charlize Theron in a movie, have her destroy some mooks and make out out with Sofia Boutella, and all my possible complaints about story structure and whatnot just melt away.

Ignore everyone else. They're thinking too much - looking for something that isn't there. This is all style. The plot is basic, but this is the kind of movie that doesn't need a plot. The director is known for co-directing John Wick and a shitload of stunts. Charlize Theron rocks as the titular Atomic Blonde. She's smart, capable, quick, and doesn't take no for an answer. The film oozes with Winding Refn levels of color and saturation and over the top stylization. Fun all the way through.

Tries very hard to be stylish and cool. Should've tried to be less stupid and boring instead. Convoluted does not equal clever. That one setpiece with Spyglass was decent, though. So, hooray for 10 minutes of entertainment, I guess. Is Charlize Theron seriously only doing bad, comical B-movie acting nowadays? Please stick to normal acting, Charlize, you're really good at that.

It really should have been titled Atomic MacGuffin because holy fuck is "The List" an unattainable plot device. It is entertaining and beautifully filmed, but it comes off more as a music video with some plot thrown in as opposed to a full-fledged cinematic experience. The fight scenes are pretty well-choreographed and the set pieces are absolute late-80s candy. That being said, you get to spend well over an hour watching Theron and crew phone-in their performances and it's a wasted opportunity.

Disappointing, the story is messy and un-engaging and while Charlize Theron does a good job with what she's given, her character has little to no depth and very little personality. The action towards the end is pretty great but the rest of the action leading up until that point I found far too basic and brief to be exciting. The stairwell fight scene is a definite highlight and where most of my points come from, though the 'invisible cuts' that tie the sequence together could be hidden better.

Atomic Blonde is a stylistic amalgamation of double-crossing spy clichés that most movie-goers are already familiar with. What the film has going for it is the acting, with solid performances from Theron, McAvoy, Marsan and Boutella. Unfortunately that is all the film has going for it. The setting is dull, the lighting blue and dark, the soundtrack was just alright, the action uninspired and the story was mediocre. The only thing Atomic was the impact made by this film.

Atomic Blonde is an enjoyable thriller that's punctuated by a fantastic action sequence which is almost good enough to make you forgive a plot that leaves a lot to be desired. The action is great, the acting is good, the film looks wonderful, and even the makeup is tremendous. Its story is filled with cliches and unsurprising "surprises," but it's just here to give us fun scenes, exciting moments, and an excuse for Charlize Theron to remind us how compelling of an on-screen presence she

Proof a film doesn't automatically become good when some Bowie is thrown in the soundtrack. Especially when the song is used in a scene which is a bit of Tarantino imitation. The gaudy visuals, hyper reality cold war setting, and weird dialogue doesn't do it any favors either. This tries desperately hard to be something it's not. It fails spectacularly in the end but it does so in style at least. There's a few cool Theron moments worth watching but lots of nonsense jibber jabber to slog through.

So much going for it. I love a good spy thriller and Theron can do no wrong in my eyes. But this just needed a little something extra to make it great. The soundtrack and visual style are excellent, and backed up by some stomach-churning action scenes that are viscerally intense and brutal. But somehow it didn't click for me, and I never really engaged with Theron's character. Which, given the finale, maybe I wasn't supposed to? Lots of cool, but lacking in any characters I could empathize with.

There are reasons I watch movies. To try and rekindle emotions in a heart that dried and shriveled during the Bush administration. To try and relive a period of time that I should have been paying more attention to than playing Dance Revolution. To watch pretty people kick the shit out of stuff. But pretty much that last one. Thank you, Atomic Blond, for your contribution.

Fortunately Theron's wonderful to watch since she's required to play another one of those stoic bada--es. It's also fortunate that there's a barrage of fantastic 80's tunes & some excellently choreographed, viscerally bone-crunching fight sequences since the plot is crammed so full of double-crosses and triple agents it's impossible to know exactly what the hell is going on in any detailed or satisfying way. The best part is a string of action scenes near the end which is far easier to follow.

Atomic Blonde is drenched in style but hollow in substance. From a story telling perspective this film is riddled with problems but none of that matters too much because this film is absolutely immaculate. Charlize Theron is perfectly cast and she elevates the experience dramatically. And the masterfully shot, edited and choreographed action sequences are the best since John Wick. Add to that a vibrant 80s soundtrack and lighting that is dripping with neon and you have an incredibly cool film.

Convoluted and confusing action thriller is forgiven when the glorious fight scenes kick in (pun well and truly intended) - the ever versatile Theron is perfectly cast here, creating a convincingly enigmatic smokescreen for Lorraine, while coming into her own as an action star during the action scenes (the mid-section centerpiece is one of the best, most sustained action sequences in recent years). If only the plotting and nefarious goings on were a little clearer, this could have been great.

Leitch strikes again! This is one of those movies (I get a few each year) that force me to re-rank OTHER movies to fall in line with it. Understanding that this movie is imperfect, I love the soundtrack (even in the places where songs are shoe-horned in), I love the stylish-ness (even in the places where it's imbalanced), each performance is pretty on-the-money, and I just plain had a lot of fun. More espionage thriller than action movie, some may feel misled, though the action is quite good.

The best bits of Leitch's spy thriller are the clinically choreographed J.Bourne-style brutal fight sequences and shootouts. And that concludes the good parts. The rest of the film is a mess. Ten times more convoluted than any normal viewer would want it to be. Stilted acting from Theron trying to put on an accent she can't do. Musically, a parade of clichés. Stylistically, lit to within an inch of its life by comic book neon glows. Realism is out the window but it takes itself so seriously.

The extended fight sequence near the end is the obvious highlight, and tbh it really helps in keeping this an 8o. Sometimes the music is overused and the style doesn't match, which dropped it from an 85, but usually that all meshes together and it's incredible to watch. Probably the most inspired fight scenes of the year, since John Wick is more of a shootout. Plot is fine, interesting enough, without the action it would have been more average but the action exists and it's great.

If style was all a movie needed to succeed, then "Atomic Blonde" may just have been one of the most dizzyingly perfect films of the decade, boasting a palpable cold war atmosphere, a gorgeous neon aesthetic, and a rocking 80's soundtrack to die for, not to mention Theron's fantastic performance. But amidst all that beautiful, gorgeous style, there's just not very much substance to be spoken of, due to a confusing, convoluted plot that almost visibly strains under the weight of its many twists.

A more-than-competent film in nearly every way aside from story. The film is beautifully stylized and the action is extremely well done and visceral (the stair scene especially being a standout). Unfortunately, the plot is very convoluted. The film doesn't properly build up the supposed loyalty/motivation of most characters, so I'm often left confused on what the film expects me to think of them - thus many character-focused scenes feel hollow. Still, it's worth seeing for the style alone.

Leitch clearly knows what's up behind the camera - the colors, lighting, framing and camera work are intoxicating and the action/fight composition is never generic. But, man... this film is a borderline-disaster on the script front. This is Spider-Man 3 levels of meandering, convoluted, unfocused, overplotted nonsense. Which is a shame because Leitch's John Wick was such a lean, tightly-plotted gem. This is a beautiful film that at no point comes within a mile of successfully telling a story.

Some of the most kickass action sequences of that year are mixed under a mishmash of incomprehensible plotlines, tons of eighties-retro-pandering, really dumb dialogue and one of the most untwisty twist endings of all time. Gotta highlight Theron's superb performance and, again, the awesome action sequences. Well, this movie works more as just clip after clip of stylistic porn and it isn't like it's some excuse I'm making to make the movie seem better. It's like they had a lot of the right pieces to the puzzle (style, cinematography, solid cast, impressively shot fight scenes) but they couldn't put them all together in a way that would properly fit. not held together all that tightly by the story.I find this haziness to be a strength Its a noir reminded me(forgive the bold stretch)of Huston film for the characters all trying to out-nasty each other.great job with the period!set design created a stifling Eastern Bloc feel.action last because it was used sparsely but erupts brutally in the few moments it was used.Lastly, Stalker? Really? I couldn't help but laugh at it getting stuffed in there.
