wow, eren really has no luck with the ladies.

The basic ideas from the anime are there, but a lot of the specifics in story and character are missing. Forgetting the source material, it's still not a very good film. The whole thing somehow felt simultaneously rushed and slow. The visual effects are okay sometimes, and I'm not sure they could've been done much better, but other times, they're not so great. The acting is pretty bad, all around. The direction isn't incompetent, but it isn't any good either.
