#Feralgirlsummer aka Moonrise Kingdom that actually fucks.

An interesting premise for a Bildungsroman; a girl losing her sight during the summer holidays as she negotiates impending womanhood. And in most cases it works better than most recent coming-of-age films. While ocularcentrism is not directly challenged, this is still a celebration of the non-visual senses. Some definite 'Pierrot le Fou' vibes going on here (at least in terms of some of the imagery).

One of 2017's great surprises. By toying with the idea of an upcoming loss of personal agency - Ava's pending blindness - against the already claustrophobic frustrations of being a teen (girl), the need to break free leads to wildly unexpected places. The backlash against the film's nudity and sexual themes surprised me - I suppose your response depends on how closely you match age to intellectual and emotional maturity. I don't see a direct correlation, and Ava is further proof of that.

A striking, multi-layered, genre-bending feature debut from Mysius. I would not imagine a 13-year-old girl to be very interesting, but the way her story is told, with moments of escapist madness punctuating the frustration and fear of an unknown future, proves otherwise. The film is full of interesting images and visual motifs revolving around the colour black. You can't fully understand it in one sitting, but you definitely notice it. An ethereal talent reminiscent of Lucile Hadzihalilovic.

Starts great, kinda lost me in the second half

Gözleri katarakt olan Ava adlı genç kızımızın hikayesi. Dışarda siyah köpeği ile dolaşan Hintli serseriye aşık olur. Karanlıkla savaşırken, annesinin rahatlığıyla da uğraşıyor. Yalnız filmin kaçış-yol hikayesine dönüşmesi sıkıcı bir hal alıyor. Oyunculuklar iyi. Kötü çocuklar her zaman kazanır.

A girl going blind spends her last vacation while being able to see trying to live a little. Nicely shot and and well performed by the lead actress. You might wonder whats up with the thirteen year old being nude all the time but thats probably just how french movies are.
