Was I entertained? Yeah, sure. Was I satisfied? Nope. Too many action set pieces, too many characters, a rather unengaging execution. It feels rushed and samey; again with the mind control, again with the SpaceMacGuffin, again with the faceless army third act. Doesn't add a lot to the Marvel movie universe apart from some new weak characters, and I think playing it annoyingly safe is this movie's greatest misstep. I kinda liked Ultron but I can't really say why.

Let me save you two and a half hours of your time and sum this up for you: Black Widow and Hulk, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N- oh fuck he flew off in a stealth jet. Welp, that was dull while it lasted. Oh yeah, and there is a bunch of pointless action, shallow character development, more pointless action, and some sad attempts at philosophy. Let it gross a few hundred million and wait for the salivating fanboys to come back and watch the next Marvel movie. I know I'll be there, unfortunately.

Where Avengers 1 felt like a fantastic culmination of Marvel's "Phase 1", the second one suffers from feeling like a pitstop on the way to the next batch of adventures. Ultron was a potentially great villain, but in the turbo charged story, with barely enough screen time to go around, he never really seems to pose much of a threat. This is not to say that the movie isn't entertaining, because it is a fun ride, it's just not as fine-tuned as the first time around.

The interesting moments are the quiet ones where you see the heroes bantering with each other. Ultron and his master plan definitely needed more thought in the writer's cave because it was a mess. Action scenes were more complex than the other marvel movies and visually interesting. The less popular heroes are actually given a voice and purpose now. Overall better than most of the other Marvel films but not the top. Kudos for not making Vision look completely ridiculous.

Sure, it looks awesome when Iron Man hammers The Hulk repeatedly in the face. And yeah, this is a well-paced and very entertaining sequel. But... The somewhat formless plot writing reeks of procrastination, and the oh-so-witty character of Ultron stinks even worse (James Spader is an even less intimidating villain than Lee Pace's LARP-type role in "Guardians").

"The city's flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense." The closest Marvel is going to get to a Hawkeye movie; his segments are definitely the most worth watching. As for the rest, it doesn't really come near the heights of The Avengers the first time around. Ultron doesn't measure up to Loki as a villain, and the Hulk/Natasha romance seems ill-conceived. However, it's still the type of enjoyable ride that Marvel's become good at churning out.

A whole bunch of bleh. Characters fly around the screen and appear in places, then punch cartoons, then stuff happens. Everyone's power is editing themselves into a boring action sequence. Characters range from confusing to downright contradictory. The score is fucking awful. I'm sick of Marvel.

This movie reminded me of that time when I begged my parents for a new He-Man doll (Webstor, if you were wondering), and they told me that I hardly played with the stuff I already had. So I meticulously arranged every single toy in my possession all around the living room, and made extra super loud noises as I brought every single one of them into play. I actually had an okay time, but it wasn't really what I wanted, now was it? Things I learned from this review: I was a scheming little bastard.

Full disclosure: I am slowly but surely losing my interest in these comic book movies. Even ones that aren't just rehashes of every other super hero movie and are actually good I generally just "like" now. I can't tell if this was bad or if I just have had enough when they all feel the same. The action felt just like what I saw in Captain America 2 only with the other Avengers, the romance angle lacked chemistry, and the humor was overused and mostly bad.

Let's talk about Marvel stepping on themselves by having too big a universe and also too little focus on heroism. The best scene in this movie is when the superheroes try to lift Thor's hammer. It's a nice bit of comradery, humor, and legend building. That shot of Thor noticing the slight movement when Cap touches it is perfect. Perfect. Then seconds later Vision is walking around with it because WHO CARES? By End Game, I felt nothing when Cap wielded it, and I REALLY wanted to feel that.

This is a perfectly average summer popcorn movie. My minor complaint is that I'd prefer my fanboy cinema to have deeper thoughts/scenes that cause audiences to have philosophical conversations with friends & family. Still, Ultron continues an eerie thematic undercurrent in recent action flicks: people fighting a great evil that they themselves created to fight an invisible or distant enemy. Overall the movie serves as a workplace action comedy--which isn't a bad thing once you think about it.

Suffers a bit from an overlong running time, repetitive fight scenes against hordes of insubstantial enemies, some dodgy dialogue and the feeling that we've seen it all before. That said, even when they're a bit mediocre, these Marvel films still have a lot of charm. I like the cast, and some of the ideas and execution are pretty impressive. It's alright, just not very satisfying.

Haha they are talking about mundane things while they are fighting. Computers are bright floaty pictures you swish around with your hands. Hey Joss, adding a sentence about God in every Ultron speech wont bring enough gravitas to surpass your dogshit cinematography. If Vision had nailed Ultron to a cross I'd probably bump this score up to a 41.

It's gotta be insanely difficult to balance a story with between six and eleven major characters, and I admire that characters without there own movies received more attention. My main complaints are with the shaky cam, the super fast editing, Ultron's rushed motivation, a few fairly predictable plot points, and not as much inclusion of the twins. On the other hand, the action scenes, portrayals of the characters, comedy, and Whedon's own devotion to the story really show.

I'll be the first to admit how much I praise comic book movies that feel like comic books, but this has kind of forced me to admit that it isn't always a good thing. While a movie like Iron Man felt like a fantastic first issue, Age of Ultron feels like a badly written annual. Entertaining and fun to look at, but dumb and barely a movie.

With the same simplistic structure, and the same puerile sensibility as the last one, it's essentially the same movie. But this time Scarlet Witch's dream-horror abilities added just barely enough psychological depth to keep me on board through the Transformers style destruction porn, and The Hobbit style cgi hordes of identical bad guys getting bopped around the screen in meaningless fashion. Very occasionally the screen looked like a comic book panel, and then I shivered with true delight.

Here's my best attempt to muster enough energy to review Avengers 2 as though it were an actual attempt at storytelling & filmmaking instead of just one more step in Disney's tedious commodifying of color-by-numbers fan service: More like Age of Dulltron. Don't worry, Avengers 3 promises a whole new adventure carried by the afterthoughts of this movie, though without Whedon I guess we might have to do without the hilariously ineffective stabs at pathos.

Alright, so no one else is willing to just be honest. This movie sucks, it is as simple as that. It's so crammed up to the brim with mindless 'action', shitty dialogue, bad pacing and then some. Whedon seems out of his element, 'jokes' fall flat most of the time and in the end you wonder, why the EFF did I spend 13 Euro's on this drivel? Marvel only really succeeded with GotG, at least to my taste. Last but not least, F-CK 3D, I couldn't detest anything more than that. I want 2D back.

What a letdown... I really enjoyed the 1st movie and I'm a big comic book fan -- but now, for the 1st time since the cinematic superhero boom started, I feel like the genre has officially blown its brains out. The bubble has burst. By the halfway mark, I was constantly fidgeting in my seat wanting to leave; I haven't felt that way in ages! For a film of this caliber to feel so stale and so plastic, I've lost all enthusiasm and hope for future MCU films.

AvEhhhhhngers: Age of It's-Alright-I-Guess-tron. It's at least nice to have a superhero movie whose climax is dedicated to saving people rather than just punching bad guys. I guess I'm one of the few that was truly pleased with this movie. I agree that it's a little less eventful than the later MCU films and it's not as funny as the first Avengers, but the quiet moments between the characters are great. Banner was the best character, and I really dug what they did with Hawkeye and Black Widow. The action isn't too bad the the story develops our heroes further. Obviously well acted and made. I personally thought it was the kind of sequel we deserved.

Ultron is definitely the star of the show here, and James Spader's charisma completely carries the movie. Also appreciated is the actual characterization of Hawkeye, and the scenes towards the beginning where the Avengers were just hanging out and being themselves (in particular the scene where everyone was drunkenly trying to lift Thor's hammer was a highlight). There ended up being too many mindless action sequences, but overall, it's an engaging, if not spectacular, comic book movie.

True to its nature as a sequel, AoU does what the first Avengers did, but faster, stronger, harder and definitely louder. I am, however, unable to come up with a single thing that it actually does better. An enjoyable enough ride, but the ending made it feel like it only served to bring together the team for the next Avengers movie.

Character development of Black Widow felt contrived, as did her romance with the Hulk. The female superheroes and other female characters all seem token in the Avengers series. It put me off that they had Black Widow saying she felt like a monster because she couldn't have children and idealized Hawkeye's secret barefoot in the kitchen wife.

I have to give Whedon credit for orchestrating the impressive feat of making a bunch of barely-known superheroes iconic and interesting to the main public within just a few years. Now, I have to give him credit for turning them into bland, lifeless caricatures of themselves in an even shorter time. Few things in this movie stand out (Scarlett Witches dreams being one of them). It feels like a very expensive fan-made sequel, made by someone who never grasped the essence of the first movie.

Action-packed, epic, silly, and fun, Age of Ultron is not as focused as its predecessor, but is bolstered by its visual effects and fun characters. What it lacks in drama and focused plot, it makes up for in spectacle, and has a few very good moments.

Age of Ultron is an enormous amount of fun. But whereas the first Avengers felt like a standalone film in it's own right, this sequel feels like a less significant piece in the larger MCU jigsaw. Credit to Joss Whedon, he has even more characters, plot threads and MCU baggage to juggle and the unveiling of Vision in particular is incredibly satisfying. And as expected the action, set pieces, cinematography and mix of old and new characters is certainly fan pleasing and thoroughly entertaining.

Lord knows I'm a Joss Whedon fan - I've watched Firefly's full run many times, Buffy's twice, Angel, Dollhouse, all that stuff - but, beyond the Whedon-y quips, I sense little of him in the final product here. Those quips, along with a quarter-billion dollars of effects and spectacle, certainly make the film watchable, but overall Marvel's corporate hand is heavily felt in a generic story. Ultron himself is a disappointment as a villain, better than Ronan or Malekith, but no Joker or Magneto.

A movie not at war with Ultron so much as it's at war with itself. The film is desperately swinging blindfolded for what makes these characters human, from Hawkeye's suburban respite to Banner's brooding romance - even Ultron and Thor make the attempt. It's at constant odds with the God and Gods theme and oppressive PG violence. I think it's fatigue - when Hawkeye tells us nothing makes sense, and you have to make the best with what you've got, that's Joss crying inside.

The storytelling in the first film had a purity to it when it came to throwing these characters into a room and seeing them slowly join forces. We're past all of that now, so unfortunately we get a typical overstuffed superhero sequel. Solid character work is interrupted by endless amounts of stuff happening and Ultron starts off intimidating but is quickly ruined by stupid one liners. It's entertaining in all the ways you'd expect but stubbornly avoids being anything better.

Credit to Whedon for managing to squeeze so many characters into one film & keeping the whole thing mostly coherent & fun. In Ultron we're given only the outlines of a great villain, but Spader's voice work is perfect. Negatives are plenty however. Whedon's wisecracking screenplay is considerably more irritating than funny, & somehow even more hokey than his usual fare. It's too long also, & dare I say the action sequences could have been cut by about 20%? The Hulk/BW love-up is horrid also.

Robert Downey Jr. does his Iron Man shtick which doesn't work very well with a script this lackluster. Enjoyable watch. I really like the individual stories of the characters and how they combine into a greater backstory which the films lead to; that is the strong point for me. That is also the problem which I had with this movie. It does not progress on that story. The action and effects are top-notch as you would expect from such a production. However, it falls flat in all the other departments. Felt like a filler-movie to me. Villain had non-logical motives.

The newest installment for in the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" is the disappointing sequel to the smash hit "The Avengers"(2012). Although not necessarily a bad movie the film unfortunately feels more like bloated filler when compared to other films in the series. The movie wants to do too many things while not doing any of them really new or noteworthy. The movie still serves as more of the same decent summer blockbuster fun, but in the end as a whole amounts to less than the sum of its parts.

This film has a lot to it. That means it has a lot of strengths--the returning cast's chemistry; Spader and Taylor-Johnson working off Whedon's inveterate smugness; a convincing sense of scale. But it also has a lot of weaknesses: the confusing story; the tacked-on death; the abject lack of change in any of the characters; the relegation of black superheroes to minor roles; the apparent belief that we should allow ultra-rich superheroes to cause untold property damage because they know best.

Everything that Joss Whedon pulled off so effortlessly in the first installment feels strained here. 'Age of Ultron' is the equivalent of 'Iron Man 2' to 'Iron Man'. The magic and novelty are noticeably absent. The action is big, the humor is hit or miss, and the overload of plot and characters wrestle the movie to the ground. The villain is also a major letdown considering the hype as well as the casting of James Spader. He's got nothing on Loki.

Suffers partially from being a middle rather than an end, from being stuffed too full, and from a lack of menace from Ultron. However, the action scenes are effective, and the decision to put the emotional burden on the lesser-known characters was a very smart one. We're already invested in Iron Man and company, let's take the time to get to know everyone else and round out the team. So yes, I did enjoy it. But still, Infinity War better fucking deliver.

A vast improvement on the original in every way. Better villain, more attention paid to fleshing out the characters, more exciting action (the Hulkbuster fight or even the beginning scene). Ultron was pretty awesome with his snarkiness for the most part. This is what the Avengers should be.

It's telling that when Ultron first wakes, Whedon has us see the world through his eyes: he wants the audience 2 connect w/ all his characters, even if it's a robot bent on killing us all. Not many filmmakers pull off what Whedon's done twice now: there are many franchise mandates 2 meet in a film like this & even more characters 2 juggle, but he keeps it all in the air with a fluidity that's astounding. The setpieces r bigger than ever, but, luckily, so is the depth of characterization

While admittedly my expectations were low, the Avengers sequel surprised by trumping the original at pretty much everything and by being almost interesting, undermined by its undeveloped themes. For instance, something like the Avengers actions culminating on a 9/11 parallel is of little consequence; seeing how by the end everything wraps in a nice innocuous sanitised resolution of a warfare conflict.
It toes the line, the safe and uncomplicated line or Marvel's movie plans.

Joss Whedon once again creates a film full of twists and turns that include humour and intense action scenes. Ultrons presense brought a new feeling of doom for our heroes and created a dark atmosphere. At times however this film did feel over crowded with characters and a few seemed to be unnecessary.

There's a few good scenes here where for once everything slows down and there's some building of characters. That ends quickly however and the rest of the film has action with no weight or interesting stakes to them. There are no turns in these films that make you worried or tense about how they're going to get out of some mess, because all the superheroes are just too powerful or straight up invincible.

Spader is intriguing as a villain but still doesn't convince as an ultimate evil. Marvel needs to bring out the big guns soon or this boom will fade fast.

Good fun, entertaining, though as with the first one, the action, while generally well-directed, overwhelms the best part of the movie (the personal interactions between these ridiculous characters in the lulls between action) and becomes a bit brain-numbing by the end. The whole thing feels frantic and overstuffed, like it's barely keeping all its balls in the air.

Probably not quite as seamless and of-a-piece as the first one, but almost as much of a mega-entertaining blast of adrenaline. Ultron's a great, vivid--if one-dimensional--bad guy, and the team interplay is much more fun this go-around. Basically plays like an epic-sized story arc from the "Avengers" comics, with peaks & valleys in the plotting, characters drifting in & out of the action. It's awesome fun just to sit back and drink everything in.

I loved it. I'd say it's on par with The Avengers. Great continuation of the franchise, but still works as a standalone movie. The story has a lot going on, but it's paced well. Each of the main characters get their own little story beats as well as explorations of their past, their motivations, and their relationships with one another. There are plenty of funny character moments. Olsen is a very welcome addition, and Ultron makes for a pretty interesting villain. It left me wanting more.

"A hulk buster can't take down a skyscraper in 8 seconds, it's not physically possible. THE BEAMS WERE COVERED IN THERMITE PAINT!" "Hawkeye's super power is to be a great dad." Some good stuff here to riff to. Spader was awesome. Hulk wasn't used as well as Avengers 1. Probably my least favorite so far from the MCU, but I'm still on board with it. If you want better Avengers in character, drama, and story, check out the cartoon Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. They get more done with less.

A fun time, which is all it really needs to be, but it's nothing more. It's mostly set up, but at least James Spader salvaged the Ultron character from being completely inconsequential like the baddie in Guardians. It's all a bit run of the mill. I'm torn on the Marvel Universe. On one hand I can't shake the fact that it's a gigantic cash grab. On the other, I like the serialized nature emulating monthly comic books. It's still very watchable even if it's never great.

A total overload of action, fighting, nonsense, graphics, effects, sound & music. Amidst the chaos are a few good performances, some good computer graphics and a few interesting ideas. It's a comic on steroids and its frenetic pacing gets a little tiresome. Most of the ending was an escalating panorama of fighting scenes with a thin story that is all over the place. I felt bombarded. Too much CGI played in fast forward and very poor storytelling nearly ruins it.

Age of Ultron doubles down on witty one-liners, all the while aiming for darker tones. As Whedon's (probably) final feature in the MCU, it succeeds. While the film does feel like battle after battle, it's entertaining even when it's setting the stage for Civil War and Infinity War. The new characters are interesting, Spader does an excellent job as Ultron (who is honestly more compelling than several previous individual foes combined), and Bettany finally gets a body.

The Hawkeye family angle sucked. The whole forced love story sucked. I cringed every time computers or the internet were mentioned. I do not appreciate constant product placement in my face. The action was fun though. The plot was weird and felt extremely random at times (yo let's turn this gem into a guy????), and half the characters feel completely useless. I had fun watching it, but I guess I'm just getting tired of the formulaic Marvel movies. They need to do something new.

Another healthy dose of enormous and entertaining action make this a fun film to watch in spite of its mostly lazy writing (see Wanda and Pietro's weak antagonist motivations-and Ultron's, for that matter-and correspondingly cheap turn; the half-baked Hawkeye development; the far-fetched and only vaguely explained bad guy antics), with the aid of one well-timed bit of self-awareness: "The city's flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense."

It's not quite up there with the original but I enjoyed Age of Ultron. It delivers more of the top of the line action set pieces. If you look between the lines, Ultron is pretty much the same as its predecessor. An evil being wants to destroy the world and uses its army (this time robots) to wreak havoc. They even reuse the plot of The Avengers feuding with each other and learning how to work as one to succeed. The humor is ramped up even more. It's a fun time at the movies. 4 STARS

The problems with this film begin and end with Ultron. He is just not a compelling villain, and his introductory scene with the extremely embarrassing Pinocchio reference just set the entire tone wrong. Spader's voice acting was fine, but the writing was not. The movie was just so many cliches bunched together, and the film felt overstuffed. And yet, most of the characters have no real development. Waste of a crucial opportunity.

It's fun. I enjoyed myself. It's hard NOT to enjoy a witty Whedon action film. Spader is positively delicious as Ultron. But Whedon can't push the stakes beyond those that were in its predecessor, and it can only solve its problems by outrageously tipping the scales in the heroes' favor via new characters. The film's very title is a misnomer. Tension is direly needed here. I fear future MCU films will stick with inconsequential villains who ultimately change nothing. It's fun, but not "wow" fun.

One can only wonder whether, were it not for the distorting effects of this megafranchise, actors of the calibre of Renner, Ruffalo and Downey Jr. might have been involved in better and more interesting uses of their talents. The movie is a long and tedious sequence of computerised special effects, half-hearted witticisms, and nods and winks to the silliness of it all. Could it be that Jackson's extremely prolific and widely celebrated career peaked 25 years ago, when he played Stacks?

Well, maybe I should be glad Whedon is leaving. This was kind of a mess, with 87 different subplots, and too many characters. The worst part was that important plot pieces were either danced over, or just made no sense. Winter Soldier crushes this turd under its star-spangled heel.

I think I'm just a masochist to continually subject myself to these movies when I know they are going to be garbage before seeing them. This one was bad even for Marvel's standards. The plot is so disjointed and awkward and they just keep introducing new characters and new explosions to keep you distracted from how shit everything is. I can't wait for the Avengers 3 when they have more explosions and another plot that is by the numbers and more characters that no one gives a shit about.

Better than the first, if only because it somewhat acknowledges the messed up ideology inherent in the premise. There was quite a bunch of characters in this breathtaking action scifi run though. The easy escape for building good characters is that Marvel is running other flicks for the series. It's got enough flashy effects, awesome action, and funny one liners to hold it's own in a market flooded with comic book movies, but "Age Of Ultron" is actually a small step down. Paul Bettany as Vision was pretty cool, as a derpy Superman hero's hero, and Spader's voice was just too recognizable for me, it didn't work as a villain because all I could think about was the pretty boy from the 80's and 90's. Solid outing, still oodles of entertainment here, but just not quite as good as the first.

While I still love Avengers more (I have a thing for origin films), Age of Ultron was a delightful sequel. I'm a sucker for Whedon's writing as he handles team dynamics very well. There was enough character development that the action didn't seem too tired, and I loved the quieter scenes with the team just chilling together. With how intense Civil War is going to get, I needed those simple team friendship moments. Also can we talk about dat Ultron booty?

I dug this! I was a little tentative going in, I have to admit, because the more of the trailer(s) that I saw, the more I worried that the movie was going to go "too cornball", if you get me. MCU movies tend to walk that line between entertaining and self-parody; luckily, AoU never falls over that edge (though Ultron himself certainly pushes the envelope). But not only is AoU fun and fulfilling action-wise, the emotional depth steps it up a notch. This leaves us in a great place going forward.

Ultron's word vomit became tiresome rather quickly, which is a shame, because the villain might be the strongest aspect of Whedon's latest Marvel orgy. The humor is bad, the action is typical, the romance is forced, and the story is a silly mess. The lack of novelty may be the reason for the glaring issues, which, obviously, is no fault of the filmmaker. It may be time for me to admit that I am tired of superhero movies.

Straight into action and a great start at that bringing in elements of Hydra and setting off a complicated plot. No need for introductions so a blistering start, but unfortunately it quickly runs out of steam and the pacing right the way through the film from that point is all over the place. It struggles with whether it wants to be an out an out action film, a more sensitive character development film or a complex plot unravelling. It tries to be all 3 and fails at them all.A real disappontment

The whole idea of Ultron functioning as a foil to Tony Stark is laughably absurd and runs on a really stupid slippery slope that not a single person would ever fall down, not to mention his dialog was insufferable. The rest of the movie is very conventional MCU with everyone being quip machines and painful attempts at self-awareness. In the broader scheme, a lot of plot threads introduced here don't really go anywhere anyway so like what's the value here?

A workable narrative, but with deep flaws. A relationship that feels terribly forced, some unfortunate decisions in how to introduce characters, completely forgetting that Iron Man 3 was a thing... There's energy and flow, James Spader is amazing, so is Paul Bettany, so is the rest of our amazing cast. It doesn't break the larger narrative, nor the individual stories. But I'm glad Joss Whedon is departing the MCU - he needs a rest. (2019 update: ...maybe it did break the narrative tho...)

The Avengers return, this time to combat an AI (created by Tony Stark) which seeks to destroy humanity. A mysterious pair of gifted twins (Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson) are involved, but what are their motives? Less sweeping or fresh than its predecessor, and burdened with subplots that just don't add enough (the Hulk-Widow romance is fairly awful), but still a fun ride, with the cast in good form--especially James Spader as the malevolent Ultron, his snaky voice a perfect fit.

Retroactive: 82=>84. More of the same from Avengers 1 - ensemble cast that will give you what you're expecting out of MCU characters, funny Joss Whedon quips throughout, generic plot, entertaining fight montages. Ultron is an interesting villain (much more than most MCU villains) - I liked that there was some humor/personality to it, but the motivations in the end were the same bland world destruction bent. Heavily disliked the new characters introduced - not nearly up to par with main cast.

The opening shot that shows off each of the Avengers in action sets the tone. It's a typical Marvel Universe flick that sets out to provide flashy spectacle and cheeky humour to comic book fans and family audiences. Technically proficient when it comes to the action but it falters when things turn dramatic, especially in the plodding second act. The banter between characters isn't quite as smart as in the first film, and a romance subplot falls flat. But hey, it's fun to watch on the big screen.

Not terrible, but just feels like they were going through the motions. Adds characters just for the sake of adding characters, and none of the new characters had any time to develop into anything particularly interesting. The best parts of the Avengers movies so far have been the quieter moments where they actually take advantage of having so many A-list actors in a scene together. Once it's just massive CGI action scenes, they aren't taking advantage of the charisma of this cast.

Avengers: Age of Ultron feels a little bogged down when compared to its predecessor, which didn't need to use anything more than a basic plot. This sequel tries to tell a more structured story, which works in its favor in a few ways, but in others, it's a bit less engaging and comes up short. The action sequences aren't as bombastic as they were in the first movie but are enjoyable enough. Thankfully, what hasn't faltered is the cast. Whedon has managed to up the stakes with both action and character development - and the classic Whedon humour has magnified too. This film also sets up Phase 3 nicely with new characters, threads and locales all being introduced.
My only qualm is it's very CG heavy and not all was executed as best it could be. Spader steals the show.

Most of the action was entertaining enough. The CGI in the opening scenes is awful. Attacking the minds of the Avengers was a good plot point that sadly didn't go anywhere. Looking at this, it is not possible to guess that one of the highest-grossing movies of all time will come from this series. As the whole basis of the thing is visual effects and star appeal, it stutters in every aspect. They used Quicksilver wonderfully in X-Men movies, here he and Wanda are just weak attempts at "foreign flavor". The way Ultron behaves does not make sense so much that my brain shutted down after a while. You want a powerful foe but not so powerful that his defeat is illogical.

It's a summer blockbuster film. It can't be expected to have a good plot or make complete sense but then there are good fight scenes and stuff get's blown up and all so I can't really complain. It's a good summer film.

These guys are dumb. If Independence Day taught me anything, it's that all you need is a computer virus and an old Macintosh computer to defeat an enemy such as Ultron. Also, why were Ultron's robots such pussies? At one point, these guys were getting punched to pieces. Seriously?

Its sad to see such a fun movie get so bogged down by unnecessary elements. This sequel feels far more like an effort to expand business, then to deliver a satisfying followup to the first Avengers film. I'll be interested in seeing where this goes.

Overstuffed. The action has such an unreal aspect that it makes the character moments seem unearned. It's still fun, but it's not clearing the bar set by some of the other Marvel movies.

Weak & Lost! There's too much for any part of this film to be good. They did rip a city out of the ground and try to drop it to earth like a meteor. But there really wasn't even a good fight sequence. Part of the problem is everyone's powers are so exaggerated, that they don't have fight scenes, just special glittery effects and death sequences. But glittery effects are not what got me to the theater! And if you even thought there would be acting or drama you're an idiot!

Earth's mightiest heroes gather together to fight... one of the MCU's least compelling villains. Whedon has a gift for writing dialog and the banter is still witty, but none of it ever creates interesting character arcs or a servicable plot.

Good sequel with nice character development for Hawkeye and Banner. Overall not as good as the first film, due to a weak villain, insufficient action, and not enough use of the banging Avengers theme song.

A perfectly adequate chapter in the MCU timeline, but also one that never pushes any boundaries or really wows me in any way. Too many things crammed in for the casual fan to keep up with, and at the same time very little suspense left for the fanboys. Feels like a movie with good production value but little identity.

Like other Marvel films, this one suffers from cramming too many characters/storylines. It was like the LOTR triology condensed into one film. The filmmakers did a pretty good job of this considering the challenge, but it wasn't enough. I was largely indifferent to the characters, action and climax. I did like the concept behind Vision, though. ps62

It has its moments, although it feels more of the same. The development of some relationships is interesting, and the newly-added characters fit in and break some of the monotony of the all-familiar cast. On the other hand, the action is too derivative from the first Avengers, and Ultron feels like a poorly developed character, as the dialogues indicate that he was supposed to be much more fleshed out, probably being more ambiguous than straightforward evil.

I loved Ultron. More Ultron is what I wanted. Instead I got a lot of poorly placed dialogue, odd backstory with hawkeye(what the hell was that about? why do I care that he married the girl from freaks and geeks?) and aloof actors who seemingly don't give a shit anymore. please stop quipping when the world is about to end, those jokes were SO bad. theres a psychotic robot plotting to end humanity, act like you care guys. this whole film was filler for the next set of marvel movies.

They're just pretty good films! It might have been better if they had played up the fact that the Avengers had been manipulated (both by Scarlet Witch and the bigger picture stuff going on), because Stark just going headlong into using Ultron didn't seem remotely out of character when I suppose it should have done?

Whedon's admirable desire to tie up everything into a coherent story is stretched to breaking point here, with so many threads and characters to keep track of. The MCU is becoming too intricate for a non-comic person like me. I just couldn't buy Ultron as a big bad. Whedon's snappy dialogue works well in the right setting, but hearing those lines from a supposedly omnipotent AI just didn't click. But still, it's a big budget spectacle directed by someone who knows how do to it right.

The magic of Disney is alive and well, and it has permeated the MCU and ensures that each new outing is a fun time. Avengers: Age of Ultron continues that trend by delivering an incredibly enjoyable movie that's stuffed to the brim with content and delivers highly entertaining action scenes, fun characters, snappy dialogue, and a great time at the movies. Does it live up to the first film? Maybe not, if only because it's not as fresh. That doesn't stop it from being a must-see for MCU fans.

I expected a little less and that is what I got. Age of Ultron relies a lot on CGI and special effects, that the story itself gets overwhelmed by it. Not to say that this one isn't entertaining, because that is not true. It just isn't anything special. 53/100.

That ending battle was dull dull dull. You know a movie's bad when you start thinking of your mortality. I wasn't expecting going in seeing a brilliant performance from the villain, and I left not remembering anything notable about it. Something rubbed me wrong about the whole Hawkeye's family scene, but it was a sweet moment. The most interesting character for me in this is the Hulk, though. He's continuously entertaining and gives a real sense of danger to scenes. Hoping for another solo movie

The Avengers is starting to show its age. I didn't like this movie nearly as much as the first. A lot of the scenes felt like they were ripped straight from the last one and Age of Ultron was missing one important member of the Avengers, humor. That's what I liked about the first film, it made me laugh while it also had some alien butt-kicking scenes. This movie hardly made me laugh at all and had some really awkward romance scenes between the Hulk and Black Widow... [Full Review]

I watched this movie with very low expectations, but it was fun, the story is shallow but the action sequences are entertaining. It feels like a park ride just there to entertain and nothing more, in that sense is accomplished, but is really boring seen most mainstream movies just going for that.

Everything is bigger in this sequel to the first "Avengers" just like people say about Texas in general. The question, however, remain in its dramatic value. Surely, it has not run out of perfectly time comic humor in every 30 minutes pause. The visual is of course more grandeur than any other marvel superhero movies in order to maintain that amicable sense of epicness. Somehow there are some inconsistent and few logical fallacy. it doesn't affected neither of its shock or dramatic value.

There is a lot going on in this movie but it all just seemed kind of pointless and dull to me. Every now and then there would be a good scene or piece of dialogue but for the most part I felt myself getting bored and reaching for my phone to play Cribbage. I guess what I didn't like most is that it all felt like a big filler episode instead of an action packed character driven story arc.

None of this makes any sense. Right. Now that we got it over with, the cast is spot on, the script is crisp and sparking with self-aware humor and the visual direction is a thing to behold (I liked the fights' choreography best). Like with the earlier installment - it's still a very well made film about nothing.

The comic book feel of some of these Marvel movies is even starting to mimic the format a bit, example here. It's like another installment of Avengers 1. With that comes both "MORE AVENGERS" and but also some decay. Characters don't really develop much from where they last stood in Avengers 1 and there's just a lot of punching where I felt like maybe some explaining should go or some grey bad guys getting splintered when I wanted some one-on-one with the main villain. Overall, okay.

I'll be honest, I'm getting a little worried. I still thoroughly enjoyed this movie but you can tell they're starting to feel the weight of how big this cast/world is getting and every day I hear about a new addition to Civil War, which means it will be even more difficult to juggle screen time. It's busy, it's action packed and the new additions to the cast were decent. The put on Eastern Europe accents I could have done without, but you can't win every battle - unless your the Avengers.

Relentlessly paced to the point of being unpleasant, often incoherent (both in its plotting and in its use of space in action sequences), and containing all the contrivances. No character interaction can exist just for the sake of letting the characters exist, or grow independent of the ways the story wants them to grow in. Frustrating. Also, I get it Whedon, you can write cute one-liners. Here they're distracting and annoying though, not amusing.

Just as Ultron himself is self-aware, then, the movie named after him exhibits a kind of self-awareness about its occasionally edgy content. Whether it's Thor revamping his statement about the Hulk's victims dying and going to hell, conversations about limiting damage to civilians, or banter about inappropriate interjections, Joss Whedon's script is full of winks that let us know that he knows exactly what direction criticisms are likely to come from. Oh, they didn't make it easy on me with this one. It had everything I love about the Avengers and Marvel movies in general - good humour, snarky heroes, even snarkier villains, loads of action scenes and really good cgi. But it also had way too many plots weaved into it at the same time. Like, who are the twins? Never explained. Why is Hawkeye suddenly married and where did this Banner/Romanoff thing come from?? Nobody knows! Where the frick was Falcon??? And so much more. You see my point here?

Age of Ultron is a worthy successor to the brilliance of its predecessor. Among its ups are its great cast, great treatmemt of minor characters (namely Hawkeye), and darker tone. Yet it has its bumps. While there are minor problems like tone inconsistencies and a lesser villain, Age of Ultron will be a fun time for new fans and fans of the original. Though its not better, its a worthy Marvel movie.

Age of Ultron is good. It's got good acting, writing, direction, and characters. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same bloatedness that The Avengers had but on a much larger scale. Believe it or not, if this film was longer it might have actually helped it flesh out some of its story more. It feels incomplete to a degree, especially in regard to Ultron, and its constant quipping makes the darker tone it tries to capture unable to take hold. That said, this is still a really enjoyable film.

It's really messy, even for an Avenger's film which features a dozen characters or more. The plot at the core is fairly strong, even if it ends up going in a very overplayed direction. The only problem with the fantastic cast is that everyone ends up sounding like Joss Whedon, which is probably on the script. Speaking of, boy is the script cluttered with unnecessary world-building that stops the plot dead. As a piece of a larger puzzle, it works great, as a stand-alone film, not so much.

I will always enjoy watching a large cast interact and play off of each other, but you'd think the movie would take some time to develop the theme of 'are these militaristic super-powered beings capable of mass destruction who answer to no one good or bad actually' instead of going 'oh the guy who brought it up is genocidal' and 'here's many many minutes of smashing'. like damn ok boomer me but the older I get the less I care for fight scenes and wanton city destruction
