"Between forcing smiles/with the knives in their eyes..." Definitely melodramatic, and awfully coincidence-laden. But fairly riveting in spots. Featuring a spate of rather goofy musical numbers. Sevilla is far from the world's most gifted dancer, and at one point we see her with what appears to be a Dr Seuss cactus strapped to her head, which then transforms itself into a bunch of plaintains (and unbelievably we're watching a prototype for the Chiquita banana ad).

Aventurera was probable a little too much on the safe side of sensationalism for me, but there's personality here. A lot of it! And it's a strong one Ninón Sevilla grows into focused on revenge, but there's a few redeeming qualities to her and the others characters that makes this gradual road to justice feel very satisfying. Along with some ridiculous dancing numbers that definitely pushes for a lighter tones, it's a movie that even makes this aging man embarrassingly burst out a "You go girl!"
