Rather rudimentary effort that can't really be bothered with things like explanations or creating a narrative that goes anywhere, and so it just ends up being a film about how sometimes it takes the whole of the human species being killed off for family members to have a chance at overcoming their troubles...but it's worth it.

First of all, i think you'll do well to STAY AWAKE watching this movie. Synopsis is promising, I was curious at first look but you don't understand at all what comes from where, it isn't explained to us except for the church scene, the other scenes are meaningless. Camera shots definitely fantastic, some interesting screen-shots but the storytelling is boring and the main characters are also bad. By the way, why does every main girl have to be named Mathilda?

Netflix really does greenlight trash, don't they? I guess it doesn't help that millions of subscribers will just blindly watch anything they put out. Typical Netflix pitch meeting circa 2021: So there's this guy who's stuck on the toilet for the entirety of the movie_____Netflix: Does it have to be a guy? Ugh, that's so 1995!_____I meant woman?_____Netflix: Meh_____I meant a non white woman with bi-racial children_____Netflix: Now we're talking!!! How does a $50 million budget sound?

I suppose you could say that the addled perceptions of Awake's sleep-deprived characters justify their unclear motivations and the strange staccato rhythm of the narrative (despite the premise, the film struggles with creating any impression of time passing at all), but that would be assuming a level of aesthetic cohesiveness that this ill-thought-out and desultory film plainly doesn't possess.

Barry Pepper & Gina Rodriguez were good in this, everyone else, not so much. The story was intriguing but the pacing and direction really sucked and they made the whole thing feel dull, long lackluster.

Raso’s direction is actually pretty decent at times, the script is incredibly messy though. It’s not particularly clever or interesting, despite the premise. I’ve seen much worse, but there’s no reason to recommend this other than the camerawork, and even then the director has made other films already.

It was entertaining enough, but it's extremely predictable and really poorly paced. Like, society falls apart after one day, and by day six there are death cults. (Huh?) Characters are paper thin. Interesting things are alluded to, but never paid off. It's also very easy to figure out the plot device super early into the movie. It was nice to see Jennifer Jason Leigh I suppose. Bonus points for the little girl saying inappropriate things. It's more of an idea than a fully formed film.

Entertaining enough to sit through and not feel like it dragged unnecessarily, but not especially good either. It felt suitably engaging in parts and then super B movie awful in others. All in all I cannot recommend it but you could do worse w 80 mins if you're feeling a lower budget disaster type flick. 5.2 for me.

I watched it for Gina Rodriguez and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and they were (as I thought) the only good thing about the movie.
