The evolution of the central relationship and the strengthened resolve one sees throughout is extremely heartening, and it's so pleasant to see a movie relationship which is not just meaningless drama but actual, human, sensible drama and actual resolutions to problems that occur. It is extremely well written, the cast is glorious and the soundtrack is frankly perfect. Social commentary, cultural commentary, in an entertaining, charming, heartwarming way.

Pretty difficult not to love. At times a bit too quirky for its own good, but generally endearing, loving and thougtful. Great performances by - and amazing chemistry between - Rudolph and a surprisingly convincing Krasinski carry "Away We Go" through the rough patches and makes it memorable.

I guess everyone takes this as Mendes attempting his own answer to the trendy indie comedy that's become pretty popular as of late. Thing about it is, there isn't that much that's trendy here apart from the soundtrack and crudely illustrated poster. Dialogue isn't hip on purpose, but rather real conversations between an endearing couple. A charming entry for Mendes' impressive resume.

Unsurprisingly, given the Mendes/Eggers/Vida triumvirate of trying-too-hard, this is full of disconnected caricatures, false emotional weight and a procession of giant houses in a movie about an ostensibly broke couple (Can't afford one yourself? Just inherit!). There's one striking scene in here, a pole dance doused in narcotic grief, but that's ruined by some loudmouth in the front row explaining to the audience how it's a touching moment because the girl miscarried. Thanks for the help, jerk.

I like a lot of things about this movie, but the generic/abrasive soundtrack, Allison Janney, and the overall wannabe trendiness made the experience unpleasant sometimes. The final ten minutes felt awfully stretched out. Maya Rudolph was a wonderful surprise, however.

Away We Go has been criticized for being quirky or trendy or what have you, but all I see here is great chemistry, surprising performances, and an overall heartfelt and funny story. Away We Go is a major disappointment considering the talent involved. The film's story, following an expectant couple blowing through their savings to fly around the country seeking their "perfect home", is shallow, indulgent and infuriating in its stupidity. The script is worthless, the protagonists are profoundly unlikeable and the direction lacks any vim whatsoever. The abrasive indie soundtrack does it no favours either.

A cute, charming little movie that is about finding out where you belong. This film was life at its finest, when two people needed to start new and they had no idea what was going to happen next all they know is that they had each other. On their journey they are taken to many different places none of which seemed comfortable, because life is not simply about being comfortable with the situation, it is about being happy. Go wherever your heart leads you, love life and be with the ones you love.

Something was a little off, saw it in limited release (had plenty of smarts and charm) but it felt like it was still trying to be a wide release (lowest denominator). An odd road trip, the end of the road came a little out of nowhere.

When a movie ambles along from incident to incident, the relative strength or weakness of each encounter is more important. When Away We Go is at its most inspired, it's a spirited pleasure. When it falters, the strain is more pronounced than it would be with a sharply constructed plot as its backbone. Thankfully, the film is more often insightful than aimless, filled with moments that are funny or warm or, in its finest moments, both.

The comedy fails but the heartfelt performances deliver in the end. Schneider gives a lot in his great 5 minute presence. Mendes sucks for the most part though, and he gets in the way from this being a good meditation on parenthood. Unfortunately, it's too inconsistent to love.

This movie combines two of my favourite sort of sub-genres of films - indie/quirky ones (complete with typical indie music) and road movies (complete with interactions with all sorts of odd characters). I liked the two leads a lot (especially John Krasinski) and it had a really great supporting cast as well. It was touching, well-written and it got a few chuckles out of me too. Quite enjoyable indeed.

It's becoming clear that Sam Mendes is OK director whose first films were amplified in quality by the great Conrad Hall's contributions. As far as road movies go, this tends to make stops by all the cliched wacky relatives and friends, making most of the experience somewhat average and forgettable. It turns out that Maya Rudolph is kind of a great actress and is easily the film's highlight; her bombastic SNL style is far from present and she delivers an adequately subtle performance.

"Away We Go" is a modest and ultimately rewarding and touching road-trip film, directed by Sam Mendes with his typical flair. The script appears desperate to be alternative -so, the film does follow a cliché by trying too hard not to follow the most common cliché. Yes, it feels forced most of the times, but it remains funny, cute and bittersweet, while the chemistry between the protagonists is undeniable. There's a cozy, warm feel to it, and that is something that I rarely get from rom-coms.

Decent Indie comedy feature. Krasinski and Rudolph were rather artificial as a couple, no real chemistry. It's not super funny and it gets a little heavy handed at points. Its like curling up with a good book, overlooking sunset, a warm breeze blowing through - its sweet, tender, emotional, intelligent, .. acting is great, music is great, writing is good .. And its reflective: being broke even at 35, grand-parents who choose the wrong time to get selfish, relatives/friends who think it is their duty to throw out free advice; cmon who haven't had them. -2 for the part where they associate intimate bonding and co-sleeping... with characters who have gone cuckoo.

John Krasinsky and Maya Rudolph are fine, putting in decent performances and generally being their likeable selves. Unfortunately, it's not enough to save what is otherwise a very boring and lifeless film. Some of the scenes are enjoyable enough, visiting weird characters and seeing a myriad of parenting styles, but it likely would have worked better as a series of web shorts.

Good in a lot of ways. While it bordered on the absurd with some of the characters it never got too out of hand that it made it less realistic. I always liked Maya Rudolph on SNL and she was quite good in this more dramatic role. In fact both her and John Krasinski surprised me with their acting chops. It's nothing new and the ending can be predicted somewhat halfway through the film but still an achievement overall and worth a watch.

The film is almost too twee and "indie" for its own good (enough to draw the ire of the cynics), but I enjoy the music so it works for me. Vida & Eggers' script is so good, so honest, that whatever misgivings the movie may have are forgivable. That Krasinski and Rudolph pull it off and feel like a real couple makes it all the better. The tone shifts from absurd to dramatic as we hop from place to place, and the supporting cast is strong enough to make it work. Not great, but it's certainly good.

Immensely underrated pregnant-couple dramedy -- maybe this is the best one since Hughes' She's having a baby. Its premise might be too simple -- a 30-somethings couple trying to find a new home; and then they realize home is within them --, but Mendes slowly builds it with two gorgeous leads, a great supporting cast and a story of warm and strange encounters, of bad and good parents. It's a romcom that just doesn't look like a romcom, that's why it's so good.

The writing in this film can be described as fun and quirky there are plenty of small nods to French new wave, indie films, etc.. However, you get the impression that Sam Mendes is trying entirely too hard to make a clearly defined genre film. The characters are meticulously written but they act, talk, and live like some writer's workshop wet dream. At the end of the film you just feel the whole thing is a pointless "finding yourself" cliche and would have been better as a short film.

I enjoyed this a lot. On the downside its second half is not a strong as its the first, & several of the best characters have little more than brief cameos; Daniels, O'Hara & Janney in particular are supurb & it's a shame we don't see more of them. It's also occasionally trying too hard to be alternative. Even so, the writing is excellent, the lead performances endearing and "Away We Go" is genuinely funny and heartwarming, even if it fails to make the most of its strongest assets.
