September 18,1931, Japanese invaded Northeast China, to form puppet state of Manchukuo. Later they attacked China itself. August 1937, Japanese forces combined to attack capital of Central China: Shanghai. 3 months on, Shanghai was occupied. Movie portrays true event during the attack. 500 soldiers under Commander Xie Jinyuan, covered the retreat of Chinese National Revolutionary Army. Tho facing Japanese on 3 sides, they fought for 4 days and 1 night.

Tho you can see that money and effort was ploughed into this it is largely wasted sadly. Opens with reenactment of Japanese air raid on Shanghai with obvious 1970's vehicles on the streets - modern military equipment is everywhere from here on. Also, all of the many fight scenes show extras anticipating the action. Acting is wooden with more than a bit of all Chinese good, all Japanese bad thrown in. Despite trying to portray a heroic action it ends as an unwatchable muddle.
