After a period of "adjusting" to the over-the-top acting, the total lack of consistency in visuals (ranging from flat out the worst CGI I've ever seen to simply impressive and very atmospheric),the simplistic Disney-like storyline and the dull dialogues, this film eventually started to grow on me.Specifically,I felt Baahubali only started for real from the moment the flashback sets in.This background story, together with some ingenious scenes on the (massive) battlefield saved the film as a whole.

Charming and opulent, essentially an Indian Lord of the Rings. Uses CGI like a cartoon to great effect.

An epic with biblical proportions that manages to convey nearly every cinema genre possible -- romance, war, fantasy, musical, drama, epic. A film so daring and imaginative and confident in possibilities that it's almost impossible not to fall for it.

It's easy to get caught up in the epic scale of these movies, making large parts an entertaining distraction. All the bombastic over-the-top hero celebrations does get close to self-parody. Unfortunately the epic journey the hero undertakes is not linked to any character; The hero starts and ends as a superhuman. That's why the second flashback part is slightly better, with its focus on all its typical power scheming and epic wars.

Monster epic from India! I wasn't loving this. It's like one long montage. Slow motion, massive music, ridiculous posing and super heavy on the computer graphics! And a lot of the time the CGI wasn't even impressive. I would probable complain about the acting too, but there was hardly any of it. Just hero worshiping images blown out of proportion. I mean, you can take and feel some it was pretty cool, but when the characters and story barely has any root, it gets ludicrous.

An Indian epic that feels more like a medium budget mini series than anything else. The use of slow motion and sped up scenes are quite laughable. The CGI is laughably bad for the most part. It is interesting and quite fun to see the play on Indian history and mythology.

This feels like the slightly wonky live-action remake of a beloved epic Disney fantasy movie set in India, only that movie doesn't exist.

At several points in the movie my suspension of disbelief got tested; so much so I often giggle-snorted over the ridiculousness of the action. But if you're down with heroes with super-human strength using other people as a bludgeoning weapon and Dynasty Warriors-style action, this might be for you. Very tropey at times, mixed with a decent twist or two (I loved the strong female characters!), but the main draw are the georgeous set-pieces that you can use as inspiration for your D&D sessions.

The action has annoying editing due to its use of slow motion and the plot was nauseatingly stupid to the degree I groaned at times, especially its attempts at "romance." But the production values are damn impressive and the fight scenes are very good at conveying personality and style even if the choreography is not horribly interesting to look at. It's dumb and bombastic but earnestly so, and in a way I find that find that endearing even if it's not doing much that other Indian epics don't.

As flashy as it is horrid. Contains the most rapey musical courting scene I've ever seen.
