Bachelor Mother

The premise is a bit off-putting, but somehow those involved make it work both as a funny comedy and a decent romance.

Looks a little dated today, but the Krasna script is witty and the Kanin direction brisk and intelligent. Rogers and Niven are good together, and Coburn gives one of his more charming performances.

Ginger with Fred - sizzling icon; Ginger in ensemble comedies, fine. Ginger takes the lead - bleh.

This romantic comedy from the great Garson Kanin is one of Rogers's best roles. It's a real gem.

Ah, so that's how the birds and the bees really work. Screwy comedy about unwanted motherhood. And oh how fun it was! I think I'm actually enjoying Ginger Rogers more without Astaire. Is that blasphemy? Good to see David Niven having such a enjoyable time too! Simply a warm comedy.
