Bad Girls

Completely cliched and ridiculous. If this had hardcore sex it would have been tolerable.

Except that the stars are all women, basically this entire movie has been stolen from earlier and better Westerns. At least half is kifed just from _The Wild Bunch_

Pop western nonsense was sold as the female Young Guns, but at least those films had the advantage of being loosely based on fascinating historical figures. Bad Girls is high concept crap, a cool poster in search of a film. The mediocre script does the capable leads no favours. Their characters are so poorly developed that there isn't much to differentiate between them other than their pretty faces, and Kaplan's bog standard direction ensures that it remains terminally flat footed.

Not much is done to account for the women's handiness with firearms. And outside of the scars on Stowe's back, the foursome are remarkably unmarked. A prettier, fresher, sunnier bunch of saloon girls (never mind gunslingers) you could never hope to find, even had you combed all the bordellos west of the Mississippi and narrowed down to the five finalists of the Miss Easy Virtue 1890 beauty pageant.

Girls or no girls, it's bad alright.

Prostitutes Cody (Madeleine Stowe), Anita (Mary Stuart Masterson), Eileen (Andie MacDowell) and Lily (Drew Barrymore), work a saloon in the Old West. They decide to flee the bordello for a better life elsewhere, but trouble follows close behind. They're tailed by Pinkerton detectives, Cody's savings are stolen by a bandit (James Russo), and Eileen is wrongfully jailed for bank robbery. Now the remaining three girls must decide whether to liberate their friend or their funds first.

It turns out that the girls are not that bad in this film but the script is horrible. The script is very weak and it makes the movie fail.

I saw this at an early screening, and it was bad. I'm sure the re-cut is better.
