Balalaika

Splendid MGM production values! Nelson Eddy's voice really got to shine with his selection of international hymns. And an amazing ensemble of supporting actors. Not that Eddy needed it in Balalaika (1939). The otherwise bland actor was a strong presence here. So in that regard this was positive musical experience using old Russia as a backdrop. Where this lacked, was the story. I wouldn't say they were far off their mark, but they took a few wrong turns losing the intensity in what they had.
