Fighter in the Wind draws inspiration from the real life tale of Karate expert Masutatsu Oyama (1922 -1994). Having previously emerged as a Manga series, Korean Director Yang Yunho cast Dong-kun Yang as Baedal / Oyama in a classic zero to hero tale. (Hong Kong Cinema)

Often during a martial arts movie I'm bored by the story, wanting to skip directly to the action. This story is outstanding, however, as are the numberous fights.

Does he want to be a pilot? Does he want to be a fighter or does he not want to fight? Does he want to save japanese ladies or protect the weak or does he just wanna challange his next opponent? Does he want to fall in love or make up for the death of the guy he killed or what ffs? Crap story, ridiculous character development.

Loved the fighting scenes, some stuntmen got their asses kicked. The story, however, was on the weak side.
I cracked up when I watched this with someone that mentioned the training scene being similar to one of the 'Rocky' movies.

p.s. Did some light reading on the person this movie is loosely based on, they did him no justice whatsoever.
