Really quite impressive. Méliès is possibly the best of the early cinema directors and he show why here, blending his trademark visual trickery with an amusing and well told story.

Wedded bliss, I think not. This is disturbing, fantastical and hilarious among many other things. It's Méliès after all. The sets and costumes are spectacular - the oversized food and beverages are a favourite of mine - and are matched by performances full of manic energy which are punctuated with moments of deathly stillness. The room full of hanging corpses - don't open the door! - is one of the great reveals in cinema.

set designs are stunning / love the fantasy element here / probably my favorite of Méliès.

Like most of Méliès longer films, there is still plenty to enjoy, they just don't work as well as the short ones.

A fun and interesting if simple retelling of the French folktale. The film takes a lot of liberties with the stories but it's still gruesome for the time.

A totally surprising & different style of film than I was expecting from Méliès, it's a horror story! A pretty weak first half drags the film down but the last couple of minutes are brilliant & I love how he peppers the film with all his different camera-tricks, utilising them to their fullest to tell the tale in an interesting way.

Just... too boring. They were just learning how to make movies back then, so this is so primitive compared to what we are used today

The second half is much better than the first half - sitting through it yields a lot of reward.
