On the strangeness, the foreignness and the accidentality of ancient Greece, and of our encounter with it today via the inscriptions of the gestures in rock made by tool and hand. Without having seen Pollet's earlier MÉDITERRANÉE, it is not difficult to believe, on the basis of this film, that Godard was thinking of Pollet's work while evoking ancient Greece in LE MEPRIS.
