I'll be honest and say that I've never been taken in by gang culture or the music associated with it however this is certainly one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Cle Shaheed Sloan creates a documentary that manages to express not only the historical context of gangs as a method of fighting back against racism but also their evolution into their modern state of intergang rivalry. Even if you're not into gang culture this documentary is a must see.

This doc was phenomenal. So much more than one of those "Gangland" type shows on the discovery channel. It's informative, interesting, sad, and genuine. The tone was perfect and I learned way more than I was expecting to. It really examines the myriad roots of the problem without being too preachy. It remains compelling without glamorizing the lifestyle. Top shelf.
