This movie stinks. the story is agenda driven eco-pulpit stuff that I don't care to get in a kid's, 3D film, and I am an enviromentalist. it wasn't good animation. the story was CRAZY boring. take your kids to see monsters vs aliens instead.

It could have been so good. I'm sucker for these movies with strong environmental messages, but story is so incoherent and character development is so illogical that I had trouble enjoying this film. It's not a children movie, as the themes would be too complicated. I don't care about cgi animations, but this one is definitely not the best looking.

Lowbudget film, which we can see in the graphics, but it is far from being not enjoyable. In fact I believe they did a rather good job visually. Next to that the plotline is rather simple but this makes it nice to follow. It could have used some more depth at some times, but this didn't really bother me. A nice and enjoyable, simple story with an underlying message which sometimes bothered me a bit.

Strange and entertaining, as well as being surprisingly grim beneath a light-hearted surface. I'd heard many complaints about this film prior to watching it, but I generally feel that most are a little misplaced. The plot is laid out rather simplistically and can easily be interpreted to be stereotypically environmental, but is more of a lightened and brightened tale of inner conflicts and motivations. As for the graphics, they're hardly bad considering the somewhat limited budget. Quite good.

Good voice cast. Reasonably entertaining storytelling. D-grade animation.

The best visual parts were the eyes of aliens and the mother ship of humans. I wouldn't mind the stiff figures, if the story was not that B&W and sleezy. The design for alien planet was kind of interesting, but only half way done. There was a bucket full of holes in the plot and the whole consept was designed for early teen boys: lots of guns against peaceful little creatures.

An hour and a half of CGI that might have been acceptable for a late 90s washing powder commercial, but has no place in a 2007 film. Combine that with bland characterization and a clichéd story and there's nothing on offer here. It's hard to buy into the eco-friendly message when the entire alien homeworld looks like it was made of shiny plastic, populated by plastic characters.

Why can't animated film films learn from Shrek? Just because it a kids story doesn't mean it can't appeal to adults as well? These silly sunday school morals and terrible presentations are unacceptable.

This is a great animated film. It has a good story and actually seems to have foreshadowed several films that would be released years later. Fun to watch, much better than the vast majority of animated films that are widely released.

"Battle for Terra" is small scale but entertaining. Beneath its hardly subtle and mildly irritating environmental messages lays a slightly darker undercurrent. If you go into this expecting "Avatar V's Star Wars" then you'll be as misguided as you will be disappointed. But if you just want a short, simple and uncomplicated movie, with well laid out and entertaining action sequences and solid(ish) special effects, then this is well worth a watch. Lacking substance, but not concepts or fun.

Terra also hints at the horrific atrocities humankind is capable of perpetrating. As terrified Terran mothers clutch their babies and begin to suffocate, it's impossible not to think of the innocent victims of the World War II Holocaust. These scenes are more intense than your average animated alien-invasion fare, and they'll likely make some parents think twice about taking the whole family for popcorn and a tale about genocide. While Battle for Terra is less visually ambitious than Avatar, this smaller budget film is superior in every other way. The story is cool, the acting is solid, and all the characters are worth caring about. Great action. Could have been much longer to have a more detailed look at how the political debates of the humans and terrans lead each to different sets of options and assumptions and decisions. Too heavy for kids (attempted holocaust/genocide, gas chambers), yet too simple for adults.

The visuals look dated, the character design is meh, the story is blah, and I can't think of anything I really enjoyed during this movie.

Despite its earnest aspirations to be a thought-provoking sci-fi alternative, Battle for Terra lacks both a cohesive story and polished visuals, and fails to resonate.

Terra means earth in Latin and is frequently a pseudonym for planet Earth in classic science fiction. So the title for a movie about humans invading an alien planet is as misleading as this movie is mediocre. This is Avatar on a shoe string budget which is a pointless exercise as all is left is a simplistic plot and crappy CGI animation.
