Battle of the Bulge (1965)
In the winter of 1944, the Allied Armies stand ready to invade Germany at the coming of a New Year. To prevent this occurrence, Hitler orders an all out offensive to re-take French territory and capture the major port city of Antwerp. "The Battle of the Bulge" shows this conflict from the perspective of an American intelligence officer as well as from a German Panzer Commander. (imdb)

So-so entry in the all-star war film lacks a "starry" cast (though heavy hitters Fonda and Shaw are a welcome presence); epic scale battle sequences are impressively mounted but go on forever, leaving its cast largely overwhelmed. Tellingly, the best moments come in the first hour when Shaw and Peters create a wonderful tension as they talk out the approaches to the battle itself; more of this may have made the film a little more compelling.

Big budget movie with some epic battle scenes but a very weak plot. They try to create several plot lines around different characters and their experience in the battle. Unfortunately they are all laughable, making it hard to care about any of them.

i liked the rate at which the film grew, although i see others found it slow i was hooked by it. the battles are great. and extra points because not only is robert shaw always incredible, but his scenes with Hans Christian Blech were exceptional and stood out from the rest of the film.

Some of the plot is hopelessly outdated, bordering on the embarrasing. Most of it though is fair enoough and the action sequences are impressive in scale.
