When I was a lonely teen to whom "action at the beach" meant "finding an unbroken sand dollar before the tide came in," I watched the original Baywatch for two reasons--left boob and right boob (hopefully bouncing in slow-mo). Now, as I head into the sunset of my own life, I realize that Baywatch wasn't about the boobs, it was about saving lives. It was about camaraderie. It was about extending a helping hand to the little man. And that's where Baywatch 2017 fails. It didn't have enough boobs.

The Rock's idea of comedy is saying fuck. My idea of comedy is doing a dead serious totally bizarre Baywatch reboot thing with no boobies. No it isn't. This suuuuucked.

Having never watched the show when it was on TV, the only thing I knew about it was Pamela Anderson usually ran slowly with little breast support. I think the best parallel to the "Baywatch" reboot was the "21 Jump Street" reboot, if the wacky, crime/comedy of either strikes your fancy, then go ahead and check it out, it's pretty damn fun. But to be honest, I'll watch anything with The Rock in it, and Zac Efron is getting up there too.

2 hours (wtf??) of repeating setpieces that are so lazily written, they manage to undersell even the mundanest and most obvious tropes. even the slomo-tits are a letdown. this is exactly the movie people, who were looking forward to it, deserve.

So violently pedestrian and tonally scattershot, I created my own narrative to keep myself occupied: Johnson is actually secretly filmed (Bowfinger-style) preparing, training and casting for a fictional better Baywatch movie we never see, trying vainly to save the disastrous film from evil foreign investment (Chopra, who has a faux-feminist complex and looks like Ivanka Trump. Now you can't unsee it). Hasselhoff's cameo is then a fit of madness, a pique of deep despair - just like watching this.

Never watched the original series. This was fun but uneven. I enjoyed the toilet humor, cheesiness, and eye candy. Zac Efron's character was too unbelievably unprofessional. The overdramatization of their work is silly, I'm glad there's a space in acting for Jon Bass, but his stereotypical character was distractingly shoehorned in as an everyman (and why is there always an awkward Jewish character in a movie when nobody else's background is mentioned?). Fav scenes: dick stuck; "you people"

It would take a lot to dent the combined good will Johnson and Efron have established in recent years as genre stars, but be damned if this film doesn't give it a good try; lame and lethargic comedy gets a couple of good licks in at the start, but then spends its time oscillating between gross-out comedy and quite harsh crime and violence; would be a tough sell even if both halves worked, but as it is, it's a dreary slog. The expected Anderson/Hasselhoff cameos add nothing to proceedings.

It's better than I expected but I still didn't like it. It started off promising, though. I thought this might be a surprise comedy for me judging by the first 20 minutes or so, but then it starts to fail both as a comedy and when it's trying to be a drama/action movie. The jokes (some of which are reused) end up overstaying their welcome or just aren't funny, and I didn't care enough about anything going on. Efron sucks but the Rock is still charming as always.

It's a ludicrous plot and concept and the fact that it exists probably makes the world a worse place. But I gotta say, I genuinely laughed at quite a few jokes. and The Rock is just a charming funny individual. For a R rated affair to have no tiddies though, criminal.

The problem is that Baywatch was never good, it was only ever watched because we didn't have the internet for porn yet. So there's no actual interesting nostalgia to harken to. Only The Rock and Efron's comedic skill gives us anything worth watching.

HOW TO MAKE BAYWATCH BETTER: 1. Dump any attempt at having a plot whatsoever. 2. Run a series of non or semi-consequential gags with Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron and the comic relief guy. 3. Apply stronger emphasis on mocking the original show/meta jokes. 4. MORE OF HASSELHOFF PLEASE. And of Pamela Anderson. 5. More scenes with Daddario, Rohrbach and Hadera, and/or more scenes with pretty women with tight swim suits Result: a 10/10 film instead of the over-marketed formulaic flick we got.

This was a fun turn your brain off and let the dumbness wash over you. Only about half to the jokes land but the ones that do are pretty funny. The crime/dramatic part were pretty lame but it moved the plot forward. David Hasselhoff & Pamela Anderson's cameos were kind of lame. The best part in this movie was the relationship between Ronnie & CJ. Also Zac Efron & Dwayne Johnson were a great team.

I dunno, I found this hilarious. I'm a big fan of the Rock's personality and on screen persona, and this was just him having fun. Ignore the critics with this one - plenty of hilarious jokes. Sure it's not *intelligent*, but that's not what you're looking for with this kind of movie. Also a self aware Zac Efron is hilarious.

Man, this felt super tedious. It's a goddamn comedy, why did those two hours go by like four? Very few jokes land, with no laugh out loud moments and very little chemistry despite a pretty good cast. You can watch it for Alexandra Daddario but that's about all its worth.

Both a truly fantastic, tongue-in-cheek, and loving adaptation, and an unfunny, eye-rollingly obnoxious parody all at once, "Baywatch" is a genuinely entertaining action film trapped within the shell of a mediocre comedy, a film that works best when the stakes are high, the villain moustache-twirlingly ridiculous, and the plot an overblown, yet self-serious, romp. It's just a shame that it's more than content to be a raunchy, R-rated, low effort farce, and little else.

If you're familiar with Baywatch you probably know the intentions of this film. My expectations were set very low. I expected a major dud. Surprisingly, I came out of this one actually enjoying it to a degree. The comedy had me laughing quite often. It was definitely sleazy but it didn't hurt me. It did what it set out to do and I really can't complain. It's not going to be for everyone but if you want some good laughs try it out. 3 STARS

Baywatch suffers from trying to be too many things at once and kind of let's it blow up in its face. Whether that was conflicting tones of being over the top one minute, and super serious the next, the director tried reaching for a Jump Street like feel for the movie, but in the end found no balance of action with comedic relief, and with some lackluster CGI and jokes that hit few and far in between. It's safe to say the series should be left for what it is, and wasn't great at that either.

The characters that are written to have funny moments pull them off maybe 30% of the time-- Johnson and Efron are amusing, but that's nothing new. The movie isn't as self-aware as it should be, or rather it's not self-aware in the right places. The Ryan Lochte reference is great, but all of the women are horribly flat characters. I don't know what I was expecting (not much) but was still disappointed.

To say that this exceeded my expectations would probably be giving it undue credit, but what should have been an abortion on film is not even the worst thing I've seen THIS YEAR, and for that I can tip my cap. There are just enough one-liners, puns, sexy women, sexy men (let's face it, it's The Rock, you were all thinking it), and the slightest degree of self-awareness, that not even Zac Efron's continued role as an irredeemable little shit could tank this completely. Should have been worse.

Just another of those movies that you wish it would turn into porn ASAP because you have rock solid boner watching A.Daddario. In the end you realize, that you have most in common with Ronnie, just you don't get hot girls falling for your jokes and your dancing moves are way less embarassing. I wasn't a fan of the show, so how this turned out means nothing to me. It did feel like it was a little more crass with its jokes than the original show used to be and seems to make fun of it endlessly. Zac Efron plays the same character he always plays, and it's getting tiresome. It might be okay to kill time on a flight with, but it's definitely not worth your time otherwise.

I guess it was an accurate adaptation in the way that it was shallow and bad. It's good that they tried to capture that, I guess, but there was pretty much nothing for me here. I didn't care for any of the performances, except for Jon Bass, who I'm glad is getting bigger roles. All of the somewhat funny moments were in the trailers, so I didn't laugh once. It tried to be like 21 Jump Street (2012), but just didn't work. It's still just sleazy trash.

Pretty, pretty, pretty lame stuff. You can tell the filmmakers desperately want this to be the 21 Jump Street movie of Baywatch, including attempts at wry satire of the original series, but they just don't have the skill to pull it off. Puerile comedic bits that feel like they go on forever, pretty lame action, a by-the-numbers mystery story. The natural onscreen charm of Dwayne Johnson and Alex Daddario carries it a certain way but it's not enough.

The cast do their best to save this movie despite the screenplay and the director. ~10 minutes of the material is actually good, there are 10-15 more minutes with some wasted potential, and the rest is pure trash. Great movie for hate-watching though. If the movie were more self-aware, it could be a decent summer movie. Not this version, unfortunately.

Has its funny moments but not enough of them, with too many lame gags falling flat elsewhere. There's little here for fans of the series: while some parts do nod to the storylines of various old episodes - and the best gags come when lampooning the original - overall it's very generic off-the-shelf stuff. Would've worked better as a shorter, tighter, more focused parody - as it is, it's just another pointless, unwelcome butchering of a recognisable name.

Sure seems like someone saw the Jump Street movies and thought they could do the same for Baywatch. Which arguably could have worked in the hands of someone who didn't see Bad Boys 2 as the epitome of hilarious action comedies, as this director clearly did. Gratuitous and has the ability to be funny in parts, but felt like they switched writers throughout and the awful one got most of the work. The actors try their best to elevate what is largely a B movie to its laughably charming source material but ends up somewhere stuck (ahem) in D(ick joke) movie purgatory.
