It's not a good sign when the film's ending in my head turns out better than the real ending. The ambiguity over who's doing the murders is shat on, and this film would've greatly benefited from having its last scene removed. This male-female duality of fraught anger and brutality is admirable in concept, but very wonky in execution. Buckley is rather excellent here, but her hysterical performance suggests Beast should've gone for a less dark & serious tone.

- Buckley is fantastically good - Flynn perhaps just fluffs one scene, when first confronted - It seemed odd that Mol's family disappeared for the last third of the film. There seemed to be plenty more to explore there.

Beast is one of the better films in recent years, that much is clear. Pearce his debut is quite an odd mix, style wise, it feels remarkably fresh. Buckley and Flynn both impress, but it'd be unfair to the rest of the cast, as the casting is spot on, an honorary mention to Olwen Fouéré who completely owns her role as police officer. About the refreshing part, Beast literally keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very last second, that in itself is truly impressive in this day and age. Enjoy

Every actor did a good job but Jessie Buckley put in amazing work as Moll, able to switch between vulnerable to a little crazy and be believable in both roles. Pearce is a bit of a star here as well, helming a flick that looked as oppressive as it felt (Kracun deserves cred as cinematographer), while also crafting a script that was engaging from beginning to end. This isn't just another murder mystery, it's something much more ambitious.

A striking film, with a sublime Jessie Buckley-performance driving it forward through a strange and weaving psychological mess. I mean that in a good way.

I have to say, if it's narration was meant to mimic the blackout effect - it did, because I was completely disoriented by the pacing. When it tries to be ambiguous, it's let down by anti-climatic follow-ups. There was definitely more to explore with the cinematography considering the location was beautiful at a glance.

Heavy-handed and forgettable. Even now, while attempting to remember it, I get sick to my stomach; remembering it has been difficult and not worth my time. Goes to show you that Geraldine James is the filmic equivalent of a roofie

Lumpy murder mystery oscillates between being a beautifully shot MIDSOMER MURDERS entry and a more ambitious psychological profile of Buckley's wounded soul; ultimately we don't get enough information about the strange domestic dynamics at play (personified by a creepy James) to make this angle as satisfying as it could be. Well acted, and again terrific use of some beautiful yet somehow forbidding scenery, but it never quite comes together.

Sometimes a bit too melodramatic to be fully appreciated.

Top badass moment? I’ve always had a ‘thing’ for slightly off-kilter women, so this film scared the shit out of me. Set on Jersey, (which is like the Isle of Wight but with silly stamps and French electricity), we get to enjoy the lovely Jessie Buckley self-harming and going slightly mad, amongst a family about as much fun as an asymptomatic super-spreader at your birthday party. Less fun than the video for “The Beast” by Imperial Leisure (YouTube). No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

It looked at times like it was gonna go in unthreaded directions... Only to turn out the same old at the end. The performances are decent, however.
