If you're into animal attack horror movies, then this one is a decent watch. There's not too much emotional attachment here to the characters, but I liked them for the most part even if some pretty stupid decisions were made. The lion was so nicely done, though, and it shows that when it comes to CGI, things are really improving. Also, the final fight was a cool idea and I really enjoyed how it worked out.

Movies like this are usually paint by numbers when it comes to their human characters and the story behind their conflict, but Beast distinguishes itself but providing a lot of pathos when it comes to the 4 main characters. The other thing that helps the movie establish its unique identity within the creature feature genre is the use of long takes throughout, which really do help you feel what they're experiencing. The suspense could have been better and overall the story was generic, but fun.

This is a solid 'trapped' thriller anchored by the talent of Idris Elba.

The lion was ok and Elba is good. The problem is the kids that acts like they are in a school play. The dangers are not for real it seems to them while they keep on gnabbing about day to day stuff in a middle of a lion attack. At some point you might think that it would be easier on your ears that the lion got to the girls. They could've made this a lot better.

This Lion King sequel darker than Simba’s Pride imo. Those lil girls def never goin to Africa again. Why they not pull a Bad Santa / Bad Teacher / Bad Moms & call the movie Bad Cat. Double box office guaranteed

It has my favourite actor (Sharlto Copley) who shined again, and overall acting is good. But there is not enough meat to it to make it interesting. it is like Jurassic Park attack scenes but without the grandeur of a T-Rex. They say "Are you OK?" to each other like 200 times, it grates after a while. And, nobody can take that much punishment from a lion man; have you seen up close their claws?? A bad father is always a bad father is the morale; taking your city kids to Savannah to bond??? Sheesh

Not tense in the slightest. Almost had to leave the theatre when the daughter screamed at her dad for not being able to Hotwire a car…. Kinda internalized racism tbh

Basically a remake of Prey (2007), but with a different twist. Good action and intensity throughout. Of course, animals are CGI now.

The final showdown was very well done.

It wasn't very good from a character choice standpoint yet we still had fun w the action of it all. 5.8. Not good, but definitely watchable.

Generic monster horror/thriller set in Africa. Nothing to see here, aside feom the excellent lion effects, unless your thing is hating on a couple of tween girls.

It is enjoyable and rather predictable at the same time. Typical thrills for a movie of this nature and a typical outcome for a movie of this nature. It's essentially man vs beast where you know somehow man will always take the advantage. It is well acted for the most part even if it does not require a tremendous amount of thought. It passes the time and will entertain you. That's about all you can want from this style of movie by the time it is over.

Horrible annoying characters (some sad teens) and dialogue (are you OK? Mom died). The final showdown made me laugh out loud. CGI might be good but it's still unwatchable. If a lion attacks, even Idris Elba can't stop it by gently punching it (see internet). I couldn't accept any of it. Also; every scene looks like paradise and that annoyed me: it isn't pretty everywhere in Africa. Very disappointing because of all the talent involved. Loved Kormakur's earlier work so far.

Believability isn't exactly this movie's strong suit but in a midnight movie madness type flick like this I don't really care about that.

I loved this. It is so much fun AND it is exactly as advertised. Idris Elba actually does fight a lion and it is AWESOME.

“Beast” is a solidly entertaining action movie that knows exactly what it is and delivers on its promise. While it may not be a film for the ages, it is a perfect late Summer blockbuster that will keep you engaged and entertained for 90 minutes.

A lean 80-some-minute romp in the African wilderness with Idris Elba and kids. This is a ramped up Cujo-meets-Ghost in the Darkness. Bloody and satisfying.
