Beasts Clawing at Straws

It was a fun ride. Everyone would agree Do-yeon Jeon's acting was what took the movie to the next level.

I'll always have a soft spot for a good ensemble crime film in vein of early Tarantino, Coen Brothers or Guy Ritchie. This one certainly doesn't eclipse its inspirations, but the genre hasn't exactly been overserved recently, and the South Korean setting keeps things fresh.

Reminded me of a Coen brothers / Guy Ritchie movie. I'm looking forward for that director next one !

Wonderful crime saga has plotting and a cast of eccentrics that Elmore Leonard would be proud of, especially Do-yeon playing as formidable a protagonist? antagonist? as has ever been seen in the genre. Like Tarantino before him, in playing around with time, Yong-hoon is a mad juggler trying to stay one step in front of his audience without ever trying to cheat them. Ultimately just great, grand, exhilarating fun, ultimately cancelling out any familiarity in the narrative.

Good fun, and entertaining, though it feels overstuffed and scattered at times, and the music frequently undermines the tone.
