Beauty and the Dogs

Compelling drama uses its gimmick of 9 unbroken takes well, with the flow and immediacy of performances it brings helping to offset some wonky framing choices and clumsy location shifts. Anchored by Ferjani's pained and intense performance, and provides food for thought for the #MeToo era in terms of the hoops victims of attack must leap through to have their voices heard. It's unexpected good timing probably gives it more resonance than it would have received otherwise but still good work.

O filme é pesadíssimo, mas muito bom. É interessante a escolha do recorte [foca apenas na primeira noite após o estupro, embora este tenha sido um caso de notoriedade nacional que acabou dando a vitória à Meriem Ben Mohamed, após muitos percalços] e é criativo também do ponto de vista narrativo (filmado em 9 shots ininterruptos). A atriz é ótima.

High marks for effort, even if the execution isn’t flawless. I (completely by accident) watched a much more technically audacious and successful “one scene = one shot” movie literally days before this one, and the comparison isn’t terribly flattering. But the writing is better here, more compelling and complex, despite its melodramatic and implausible elements

The use of long takes as long theatrics is quite daring
