Beauty for Sale

The beauty salon, a perfect place for scandal. The gossip lays loose and the ladies looser. Madge Evans while seeing lame-ass Edward J. Nugent starts an affair with one of her clients husband, Otto Kruger. A lovely piece of precode with excellent support from friend Una Merkel and Kruger's wife Alice Brady to lighten the mood of adultery. Evans was real good here, maybe the best I've ever seen her! Sadly I didn't feel the chemistry with Kruger being that strong.

Although my undergraduate thesis was predominately concerned with Pre-Code movies, I'll spare everyone the history lesson and simply say this film is one of my favorites from Forbidden Hollywood. Madge Evans is delightful, and if you ever get a chance to watch this movie, do it!
