Warren William as a crooked doctor with a fake diploma and fake practice, building a name for himself and letting his assistant do all the real work. No doubt William carried this but there's only hints of his charm in this melodrama. The most crazy angle was William messing up a operation and letting his famous patient die. But don't worry, his assistant Donald Meek has made a secret cerium to wake the dead. Yeah.... and this isn't even a horror movie so you can bet that part felt out of place!

Weird movie. Basic melodrama in which a man too lazy to get his medical license buys one and becomes a shady celebrity doctor who hides behind his assistant - who is not only a competent doctor but seemingly is a mad scientist in his spare time and, luckily for our hero, can bring patients back to life.

Pre-code films are really something. There's not a chance that film with a lead this despicable would be made even a year later. William pulls it off rather convincingly, working the charm while being an enormous cad. The madness by the film's end includes Meek experimenting with raising the dead and William having to admit his fraud when Muir's life is threatened.
