Beloved Enemy

Beautiful romance blossoming in hatred as Ireland fights for it's independence from England. Brian Aherne, a hardcore IRA man, falls for Merle Oberon, the daughter of a English political figure trying to break down the Irish rebellion. Not to be taken serious as a history lesson, as they say, but the love is so pure in Beloved Enemy (1936) that one can't help but fall in love with the couple.

Highly simplistic and romantic account of events. This needed more Oberon and Niven, and less Oberon and Aherene. An unusually dark looking film (as in lack of light).

Bizarre romance attached to and ruining what is quite a good film about urban guerrilla warfare and negotiating peace.

More of a love story than action film. Seemed long, but admittedly well-acted and filmed.
