Ben Is Back

Of all the ways I thought this movie could play out, Julia Roberts going semi Liam Neesons was not one of them.

Great acting by all characters in my opinion . Over the top at times, but Roberts is independently stellar thruout

Tense but disappointing.

This is an understandably grim/sobering watch. It made me think of a film called 'Beautiful Boy' starring Steve Carell. I haven't had personal experience of being addicted to anything but from the other reviews I've seen, its said to be a pretty accurate depicition of the negative affect it has on the rest of the family when a teenager gets involved in addiction. Julia Roberts is alright playing the understandably suspicious and concerned, yet ultimately full of love mother for her flawed son.

I mean, I like Lucas Hedges, but this is mostly dogshit

Magnifique. Julia Roberts est née pour jouer ça. La mère qui fait tout pour protéger son enfant, quitte à mettre sa propre vie en péril. Lucas Hedges est le nouvel espoir du cinéma dramatique Américain. Deux acteurs au sommet pour une puissante histoire d'amour. Seul point noir, le beau-père noir.

Hedges needs to pick some better roles. He's great. But this is a bumbling mess of a privileged look at addiction but oh wait they say IF HE WERE BLACK HE'D BE DEAD. Come the fuck on lol

Strong acting by the leads, but the generic directing and the amount of dumb, unbelievable storytelling choices really spoil what could've been a truly gripping Christmas-family-drug-drama -- also, the entire thriller segment never goes anywhere and seems far from well-conducted.

Good family drama. I found myself rooting for both mother and son and anxiously anticipating and fearing the fate of this young man. So I think this film did its job. And after a string of very strong performances, Lucas Hedges is really growing on me.

Julia Roberts is marvelous as always. I didn't see the charm in Lucas Hedges. Courtney B. Vance was good, as was Kathryn Newton. It was frequently uncomfortable to watch, but the writing was good despite the unpleasant subject. I wouldn't watch it a second time. Not a must see movie, but Julia Roberts is always a must-see actress.

Julia Roberts is flawless in it.

Those who saw Ben Is Back and Beautiful Boy, should almost know by now that: 1. Drug is bad 2. Timothée Chalamet is beautiful and Lucas Hedges is talented (almost).

Intense and constantly interesting despite the inevitable denouement.
