I can see this as being a generation-defining film for a lot of people who grew up on electronic music, though there are too many shortcomings to broadly recommend it. My main gripes were the vapid script and it's amateurish delivery. Wittier dialog and a few more professional actors to support the core cast around Paul Kalkbrenner (who evidently had a lot of fun playing himself) could've done wonders.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest with less gripping character drama but more sweet-ass techno and bathroom sex. That's not a bad trade-off per se. Warning; this movie WILL make you feel like partying. It made me feel like partying. Anyone else feel like partying? I wanna go partying.

Wer auch nur im entferntesten etwas mit Techno zu tun hat, sollte sich diesen Film unbedingt ansehen (und den Soundtrack besorgen) :)

90 points for the soundtrack. Kalkbrenner's music is awesome and it was nicely used in the film. The film itself on the other hand was slightly boring, with an unengaging story, kind of boring characters and not so great acting. Everything mixed together, it's not a great film, but passable and the soundtrack makes it a lot more enjoyable. I really wanted to go clubbing while and after seeing this film, so it does have that going for it.

Very entertaining and has a fresh approach to the addiction and mental problem sickness, it is also quite interesting to watch how the German health system and society deals with it in a matter of public health instead of a criminal matter. The acting is uneven as so is the story, but the music and the subject are fun to watch.

(...)Der DJ und Patient heisst Ickarus mit ck und wird verkörpert von Paul Kalkbrenner. Wieviel Kalkbrenner steckt in Ickarus?

Decent enough portrayal of schizophrenia, and a realistic depiction of the club scene for once, but I have a hard time feeling sympathetic for someone overdosing on fun.

The soundtrack is interesting enough if you can stand Techno. But the actual movie feels to much like an actual bad techno beat, repetetive, seriously unegaging the moment you stop to think about it and plagued by noise in the form of sub-par acting.

Although the idea of a drug addict going to the rehab center and being healed sounds pretty boring this film did not only touch me, but also made me laugh at some points. Once again I have to stress the soundtrack, which is one main reason why people just have to watch this one. Plus the Berlin accent in German is just awesome...!
